Nikon Monarch scope question

I have a new Nikon Monarch 3x12x44 rifle scope on one of my 223. The scope seems to be very well put together but i can see a lot of glare while looking through the optic. None of my other scopes in this pricing category have this problem but they also have sun shades. Do you think a sun shade would cure the glare problem or do i need to send my scope into Nikon? It was really sunny last Sunday when i too it out. I have noticed it before but didn't give it a lot of thought. I am very picky about my equipment and the glare is a pain in the rear!!! Lee

I had the same problem with one of my Elite's, sunshade fixed it. Also be aware the position of the sun I.E. shooting in the direction of a setting or rising sun and that helped a ton as well.

I have 3 monarchs and 1 prostaff that I dont have any problems with.2 of them have sunshades but I only use them when hunting parrie rats. I have the prostaff on a youth 243 and at dust my son can see things I cant.I think they are a good cheap scope

If it ends up needing a sunshade, you might consider this instead of screwing on a long one:

SunGuard @ Midway

They're about 1/4" thick and fit under a flip-up scope cover, like the Butler Creeks or Quake Bushwacker. It's a "honeycomb" design in flat black.
Some people say it reduces the image quality slightly, others don't.

I don't have an ARD personally but have looked through a couple quality scopes that had them and I couldn't tell any difference in image quality. Of course they were all on USO's and S&B's and the like so that could make a difference.

I've got the ARDs on my 4-12 Monarch and VariX II 3-9 and don't see much, if any difference in the resolution. Still, that was the #1 complaint about them in the customer reviews (and I read every one on Midways site before I purchased).

Thought I'd better warn Lee just in case.
