I'm thinking about purchasing this gun real soon. Just curious if anyone else has one on this board, and how they've worked for you?

I'll probably add on a brooks trigger kit from the get go, and plan on putting a leopold scope it, so hopefully with some tweaking it'll be a real shooter for me.

CZ does make a nice rifle. The 17 HMR is a cute round and it will kill fox, coon and other small critters.
I have the American in 22mag and enjoy it very much. Killed a few coons with it. One this past fall who was up in a tree looking into our lights and I held on his nose at about 50 yards. DRT actually split his tongue down the middle. So they do shoot.

a very nice little gun. Mine will shoot 1" to 1-1/4" at a 100 yards. Yes, get the Brooks trigger kit. Very inexpensive and works great. After I installed the Brooks kit mine breaks clean at about 2-1/2 lbs with zero creep. I've used mine a lot on ground squirrels out to 175 yards. Very impressive! Just a fun gun to shoot. Just wish the ammo wasn't so expensive. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gifI bought a couple thousand rounds early on so I have a lot left but I'm not looking forward to replacing it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I've been undecided for quite sometime about whether to get a .17hmr or .22mag to use for fox hunting, and whether a semiauto or bolt. Spot and stalk gun, nothing more, nothing less, and realized that most shots will be around the 100 yard range, and actually have opportunity for head shots. And perhaps a boiler room shot if the opportunity arises. I'm concerned about the fur, as I hate to see a shot fox split in half by some of the bigger .22 centerfires. Even though fur prices suck, I hate to see it.

I'll get a bipod and shoot prone. I figure a .17hmr shoots flatter out to 125 or 150 yards, than a .22 mag. So whats the difference if the fox gets shot in the head with a .22mag or a .17hmr, dead is dead. At least with the hmr, I buy myself 25 to 50 yards more distance with accuracy.

I'm looking forward to getting this gun, hopefully within a few weeks.

Take a look st the browning T bolt. I have a CZ HB Fluted in 17HMR. Shoots well. It has a set trigger. We shot a fox at 100 yards with 17 hmr and it blew a good hole in animal. I like the Browning t bolt. Much faster action.

I would just get a 22 mag. The ammo cost is less and it can still be a tack driver.also retains more downrange energy. Mine shoots 1/4" groups at 50 yards with the right ammo and its a sporter.

with either caliber the cz will probably be a shooter.

make sure you take a look at the sako quad before you get your cz. They are generaly super accurate, especialy the 22 mag. You can get a barrel for any rimfire you want and that means you might not have to make this tough decision.

whittakers has the synthetic model on clearance for less then 500 and its a steal at that price. However I like the wooden hunter model and wish i could afford it with the 4 barrel set !

Nick,

I have the 452 American in 17 HMR. "Love it" pretty much sums it up. It's a very accurate and nice little job. I've used mine mainly for shooting crows, generally around 100 yards or so. I use CCI 20 gr. Game Points that, when sighted dead on at 50 yards, is essentially dead on at 100.

The trigger leaves a lot to be desired. I purchaed the Books trigger spring kit, but it didn't solve my problem. My gunsmith has a part that he claims will take all slack out and is adjustable for a crisp, light pull. It's about $75, but will find its way to my gun this summer.

You will enjoy the rifle. Keep us posted.

The 17hmr will never replace the 22mag but they both have there place. I have shot groundhogs out to 265 yds with my 17 I would never dream of doing that with the mag but I would not try to shoot anything thicker skinned with the 17 either. I have shot a yote with my 17 but I was ghog hunting and just happened to jump one up so I shot it, didnt find it but I am sure it died somewhere, pretty sure the mag would have dropped it. so I guess I love them both and think everyone should own both

Get the HMR greta little round. 6mm06 new pics I like! I went out saturday did some calling but could get any crows to lite close enough will go out out this weekend weathers going to nice in the 60s I'll have my 17HMR and some 20gr. ammo with me.

You may want to take a look at the 452 Varmint. I have in .17HMR w/Brooks trigger and it is a fine looking, excellent shooting rifle.

I only mention the Varmint as I was initially bummed by the overly long, disproportionate barrel on my CZ 527 Varmint..of course it shoots great..and the almost 26" barrel grew on me..NOT.

Never been a fan of really long barrels.

I bought one 2 weeks ago. I already had a 453 in 22lr, but decided to go with the 452 for the 17. With ammo that it likes, it shoots fantastic. I broke the LCD on my camera and can't take pics of targets right now, so I won't state the group sizes lest I be called a liar.

Get one, you won't be sorry.

I HAVE THE CZ 452 ALSO LOVE IT WITH IN IT'S RANGE UP TO 100 YDS.WHEN I PURCHASED MY 204 RUGER ALSO IN CZ I THOUGHT ABOUT SELLING IT THEN REMEMBERING I'D OLNY MISSED ABOUT 4 SHOTS[WIND]OUT OF ABOUT 10 BOXES OF HORNADYS I PUT IT BACK IN THE SAFE.

does cz make a 453 in the 17 hmr i think that the 453s have single sets in them from the factory could be wrong if it is like my czs SS triggers i see no need for aftermarket triggers either way you will like it CZ makes some fine little rifles Ron
