question on foxpro volume

I got the 32 sound pro last winter with remote. can say I am very pleased with it but so far seems everyone says turn it about half volume I usually place call 50 to 60 yards out from me and if I set it at only half volumn I can hardly hear it at all ( I know my hearing isn't the best ) but if you have caller at half volumn and start out real low how do you really know the volumn from being back from the caller.

You'd be surprized how far an animal will pick up sound. They can hear 10 time better than you'll ever hear. I've called in fox and coyotes with just a lip squeak. The biggest mistake most people make with a e-caller is playing it so that the animals in the next county can hear it. Keep the volume down to half or lower, and you'll do just fine.

I agree, I read that here, works with mouth calls also. This last weekend I really called softley for my first call and about 30 seconds later here he came. He must have been 300 yards away. I barley blew that call. Very good advise indeed!

I set mine 50 yards away and turn it up to where I can barely hear it. That ends up being about 1/2 volume. I can't hear a squirrel distress at that range, but the rabbit sounds I can. I'm guessing Yotes can hear it probably 3/4 mile or better if it's not windy.

Don't under estimate the ears of a coyote, I never turn mine up much over 1/4 to 1/2 volume and have called coyotes from a mile away. You have to remember a coyote can hear a 100 times better than you can. HH Gary

Wildlife Technologies recommends cranking the volume up for howling sounds. They emphesize that coyotes estimate distance by how loud the call is. Louder howls means the "target" is close, and they'll come a runnin. They say that the sounds from their speaker will damage your hearing if you stand in front of it.

Hey Thank's for the info guy's. I have usually been cranking it up as high as it goes and then use the remote so I probabaly have been doing way to much volume. I'll keep it not over the half mark this time and give it a whirl.
thanks again

Hi coyote/hunter. Sounds like you have been doing it correctly all along to me. Most fellas I know turn their call all the way up and then use the remote to adjust the volume to the desired level. As mentioned, a little goes a long ways. Just adjust the volume to a low setting before un-muting it at the start of your stand.

Regarding howling volume. It's over rated in my opinion. I regularly howl coyotes in from very far away with just a little ol' Critr-Call Pee Wee. It doesn't take as much volume as one thinks. And sometimes less is better.

Good hunting
