guys... 1st of all 2 years ago i bought the Nikon LASER RIFLE SCOPE 4x12 WITH THE bdc reticle. I have it on my R-25 in the 308 cal. big money 950.00 i have been dissapointed with the laser ranging part of the scope. does not want work that great in temps under 10 degree weather. nikon did some work on it so we will see this year. Saying that the BDC RETICLE SEEMS TO WORK GOOD. I just bought a AR15 IN A 243 cal. DPMS. I am thinking about buying the nikon with just the bdc reticle. has any one had any experince using this scope on a 243 cal ? the 243 is kind of a in-between cal and just was wondering how accurate the cross hair circles ( 200,300,400,500 yds ) were on this cal of gun. thanks. marty

I am planning on moving my BDC from a 25wssm to my R25 in 243 this week. It works very well on the 25 and I hope that it will do the same for the AR. I will try to remember to update you as to how it works...

I have owned and shot the ballistic reticles from Nikon(BDC reticle), Burris(Ballistic Plex), and both Leupod(Varmint Hunter, and B&C reticle). I rank the Nikon at the bottom of the list. Personally I do not like the Nikon system. The circles are just too large, and too much clutter in the scope. I rank the Burris in the middle for its simplicity. I rank the Leupold VH and B&C as the best of the three. I especially like the VH reticle. It took about 200 shots to really get the hang of it, but now it is pretty much automatic for me. I also like the B&C in a big game rifle. It is simple, and effective---and without all the clutter in the scope. Tom.

Well, I like the BDC reticle, and if you liked it on your laser scope, it will be the same.

As for being on at 300, 400, 500, etc.

It won't be. None of them are. You can use a ballistic calculator to find out what ranges it will be on. Like 325, 435, 540 etc.

I didn't like the burris ballistic plex because the lines are hard to see for me. This is most likely due to low magnification. It is a 2-7 power.

I tried out the BDC on my R25 this weekend and it works fairly well, but is not exact. I was hoping that it would be much closer than it is, but all in all it isn't bad. Previously I had the scope mounted on a custom 25wssm and it was spot on for 200, 300, 400, and 500.... I guess that was just luck.

from what I hear the retical is designed for the 150 grain bullet going 2800 fps. that is for the 100 yr zero and 200 300 400 500 yrds. with a different bullet or speed it will vary. I have just bought one and have not had much range time with it to see how it does.

I have a shooting buddy that has a couple, & i have Burris ballistic milldots. When we are out shooting @ five hundred yards, his five hundred yrd cicle fits perfect over an 8" circle therefore works very well. I don't care for the circles myself but the glass is good. Also when you shoot that far it helps to be zeroed at that range (this for us is antelope season) then shoot at one hundred to see how high you are or use a ballistic calculator to help figure the ranges in between. Hope this helps. I'm no expert but this works for us.

Pretty good Platapus, that 8" subtension at 500 yds. is about right since the inside diameter of the circles is 1.5 inch per hundred yds., so there oughtta' be about .25 inch of air all around the 8" silhouette. Kinda' like rangefinding with the reticle--at least for that 8" tgt. size, although that reticle does have a lot of rangefinding capability to it.
