Pentax Gameseeker?

I saw that Sportsman's Guide has the 4-12x40 Gameseeker with the Ballistic plex reticle for $69.97 or $62.97 if you are a member. That seems like a good deal to me, as Pentax seems to have a good reputation on here. I know the Lightseeker is a superior scope, but would this one be worth a try? I dunno, but I may have to give it a try.

Kevlars, i just got and mounted a gameseeker 4-16x50 on my .243. I'm hoping that the storm coming this way will hold off this morning long enough to run to the range and test it.

While looking through it yesturday afternoon at rooster peak about a mile away, the glass looked clear and bright and i could pick out the rockjacks well. The precision plex literature is written well, and has a chart of bullet drop for the most common calibers.

I have to say that i like not having an objective lens to have to adjust, it's taken care of with the eye relief adjustment, so you can do both at once. This one was at swfa, i'll try to give a report in the morning if i can get out today. blue

I have a 4x Gameseeker, it's O.K. but I wouldn't buy another. One of my favorite mid priced scopes is a Burris FF. They can be had for about $150 used.

I like the optics on mine but find that it doesn't hold zero very well compared to my Nikon Prostaff. I always seem to have to adjust it a few clicks every couple of months to get it back on track but my Nikon has only been adjusted once and I haven't had to adjust it other than elevation adjustments from coyote season to rockchuck season.

I took the 4-16x50 gameseeker out today, and to make a long story short, it's on it's way back to swfa. It's just not worth $150. The other rifle i had with me today has a $70 centerpoint from wally world on it, and it's better than the pentax. blue

Sorry kevlars, i was a little bit short of time yesturday when i wrote that. The glass was clear and the plex did put you within a couple of inchs of where the chart said it would, each rifle will be different.

While it does have a 50mm bell, like a lot of low end scopes, they seem to have put a 40mm lens in it, it has a 1/4" black ring around the objective lens that shouldn't be there. Take a look through a bushnell banner 6-18x50 and you will see what mean, all you see is lens, thats how it should be.

For my old eyes the center line and the two hunderd line are to close, if your under 60 and your eyes are good, this may not be a problem. The bottom line for me was that it just wasn't worth $150. For that kind of money you would be a lot happier with the busnell banner if you can use a 6-18x50, i have used the two i have as close as 20yds in heavy brush, or the centerpoint 4-16x40 at wally is half the price and just as good as the pentax. Hope this helps some. blue

i have a 3.5x10x50 that is very clear im happy with it so far, i dont see the 1,4 black ring around the objective lenses either way i wouldnt have a problem buying another pentax gameseeker if i wanted a low end scope Ron
