17 hmr 20gr xtp defective?

I bought some hornady 20 gr xtp's and they shot pretty bad. Groups were about 2 1/4" at 100 yards. Never shot them so maybe my savage doesn't like them but I noticed the tips are angled. Is this normal? Seems like that could affect accuracy in such a little bullet.

Saw a thread on another forum about a guy who had great accuracy with them but he recently bought a brick and got 2 inch groups. Maybe from the same batch.

If it was a brick I would be upset but it's just one box. I sent them an email. If anyone has a box laying around could they let me know if they look the same way or different. Thanks.

I will say all the Hornady .17HMR ammo I've shot gave the worst results, not sure why as I shot it all up. I stick w/ CCI for both 17 and 20gr.

I shot the Hornady 17 grainers and they did ok, but the CCI 20 gr. Game Points are great, at least in my experience.

never seen an angle tipped bullet, something went wrong. i don't think you could throw a perfect spiral with an angle tipped football.

My savage shoots the 20gr xtp's just fine. I have noticed that they sometimes catch on the feed ramp and deform the tip similarly to what your picture shows. I don't know if that is your problem though.

All I've ever shot has been hornady 17's. They group pretty nicely out of my savage.

I thought 1 manufacturer made all the bullets for all the HMR ammo, so never saw the need to change brands.

maybe they do but they all seem to shoot different. Very interesting.
