Coyote Hounds

Im new to this sight and was looking for a little of you guys advice. I just got into running coyotes about a month ago. A buddy of mine took me out over here and low and behold the first time out I wacked a 40lb yote. To say the least im hooked. He s part of a coyote hunting club that is comprised of about 30 guys including myself now and they all run running walkers. My buddy's dog i ve seen in action now 3-4 times and he is an absolute stud. Big male that towers over the other hounds and out runs them everytime. He just so happens to be talking about breeding another female with him. I want to get a good coyote hound and i am not unfamilier to running hounds. I have done it in the past. I am looking for any insight or advice as to what type of breed seems to be the best. Any advice would be appreciated.

Everyone is going to have a different opinion on this. I believe there is no correct answer. Running walkers are probably the most popular but treeing walkers, plotts, black and tans, redbones, and blue ticks will all do the job.

If speed is an issue you may want to avoid treeing walkers, blue ticks and black and tans. Some plotts can move a track pretty fast and I have never hunted over a redbone so I could not vouch for them.

I used to love fast dogs but decided the a persistant steady dog was easier to get ahead of.

You will get as many answers as there are hunters.
I have seen all breeds of hounds "run yotes", and do it well, also seen them all do it not so well.
The best advice I can give is find a guy that has the "style of dog" that you like, and buy a pup from him.
If your not sure, just hunt with as many guys as you can, and over as many dogs as you can, till you find what suits you.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have ran beagles on rabbits for years when i was younger and i ve always loved watching good hounds work. I haven't hunted over hounds for several years and after hunting coyotes with hounds i really want to get back into it.
