Winchester SX-AR Varmint Any Good?

I had an inpulse moment and bought one in a .308 It will shoot better that I can........ I haven't got to use it on a coyote yet........

I am not sure why I would buy a +9 lb Winchester/FN version of
my +6 lb BAR Stalker version, except to get a detachable box
mag versus the hinged floor plate mounted box mag. If I
want a tacticool rifle, with a detachable box, I would just buy
a M1A. No, this one doesn't make sense to me.

I've had the FN heavy barrel version for a while now. It is sub moa accurate - it's not had any malfunctions - it has very low felt recoil. It was my first FN firearm. I was so impressed with it that I now own 4 FN firearms with plans to own a few more. Every part of this firearm is very high quality and well worth owning in my opinion.

Mine (FNAR) is heavier than the SX-AR and I added a heavy bipod and scope to it. It's at least 3 lbs heavier than my Model 70 that is set up with the same gear.

If I could only have one semi auto 308 it would be my choice - weight and all. I have hiked it through the mountains and walked it on the flat land where I live. Some folks prefer the lighter firearms and gear - I go lighter where I can, but I don't limit myself to light weight firearms/gear.

This firearm is set up well to serve dual purposes and mine has been worth every dollar spent.

A few downsides I've found with the FNAR
- expensive mags (perform properly though)
- difficult to set up back up iron sights if wanted
- not nearly as easy to break down as other firearms

I just recently purchased an SX-AR. A few thoughts:

It looks to be, on the inside and outside, an FNAR. There may be differences in the workmanship or parts used, but it breaks down exactly like an FNAR. It is also at least $400 cheaper looking at average prices on line and at gun shows and local shops.

It is more accurate than I am. Shoots very tight groups. Recoil is pretty good. Shot 40 rounds at one sitting with just a little soreness.

It is more laborious to clean than any gun I have ever had, but still can be taken down, cleaned and put back together in about 30 minutes.

The included instructions are pretty worthless. I have pretty much learned how to take it apart by trial and error and by looking at forums and a pretty good Youtube video (just search "FNAR cleaning").

When first cleaning the gun, I accidently tightened a screw that regulates the gas system. Bad move. When first shooting it, it wouldn't eject any loads. Found out on the web and by calling Winchester that that screw shouldn't be messed with. They also said that I would just have to loosen it a quarter turn at a time until the gun would start ejecting again. Pretty frustrating, but I have loosened it and will post again if that works.

The forestock fits pretty tightly on barrel and I have, very frustratingly, rubbed off some of the camo on the barrel. It barely shows, but still...
