7mm-08 Loads

I have a 7mm-08 w/10 twist. Curious what might be a good Whitetail load/bullet. I don't need heavy bullet loads cause I rarely shoot big deer. Very few big ones where I hunt. I tried some 120's and 140's and wasn't to impressed with the accuracy. Prefer accuracy over speed, but will take both if possible. Thanks pyscodog

i run 120 sierras and h-380 in my 7-08.

gotta be careful on close shots... anything less than 35 yards or so will not result in an exit. best to not hit the shoulder. slip it in just behind the shoulder and you'll be fine, though.

130g Speer BTSP is what we run in our 7/08's with IMR 4895 with a 9 1/2 primer, close to a max load for the rifle, shoots less than 1/2" groups, drops deer...we call it the smack down load.

I have found with my "little 7 ", bulk Rem 140 corelocs over a stout load of 4064 , cci primer, set out .015 off the lans, is just about heaven. I'm sure there are better bullets out there, but none shoot better in my gun (700 Rem). That cup and core has put venison on the table for years.

Haven't had the rifle but a month and have had the stock in the shop getting Hydro dipped so I haven't got to much range time in with it. I did get it out this evening with some 100gr. Sierra HP and a few Hornady V-Max over Varget powder. Accuracy was just so-so. Sure nothing to rave about. Minute of whitetail. But again, thats what its for.

I shoot 140 Sierra Gamekings over 46grains of IMR 4350 this is not a max load according to sierras manual, but I have used it on a few different 7mm-08s and have had good accuracy and game killing ability.

I have used that bullet in the 7X57mm for deer and it was a sure enough killer.

I have a Winchester model 70 feather weight that shoots the Sierra 140 grain Pro Hunter the best. I'm using IMR4007SSC and the best groups have been around 1" to 1-1/4". Not great but plenty good enough for deer hunting.

I had good luck with IMR 4064 with the lighter bullets in my 08.Originally Posted By: pyscodogHaven't had the rifle but a month and have had the stock in the shop getting Hydro dipped so I haven't got to much range time in with it. 44 grains of RL15 and 120 Barnes TSX or 120 Ballistic Tips both shoot 1/2" in mine. I have gone back and forth between the two bullets. They both hammer deer.

I really liked how the Hornady 139gr SST shot and killed deer. The 140gr accubond shot very well but I was disappointed with the performance. I used a 120gr v-max once on accident with very dramatic results. The deer dropped in his tracks.

2635 FPS in my 22 " Winchester Tube.

Have since built a new 7/08. 46.5gr of H414 and a 120 BT shoots a ragged hole usually. Does just fine on deer as well.
