I have a friend that owns a gun shop in Utah (Heritage Arms) and he is one of Blaser's biggest dealers in the West.
Like any other fine rifle, Blaser has options that a standard rifle does not (ie: custom wood, engravings, extra cartridge holder in stock, etc), but aside from that, they are made to exacting tolerances that most regular firearms cannot achieve on a mass production scale. They are often hand crafted and fitted as well to ensure better quality.
The R93 and the new R8 are very unique rifles that have interchangeable barrels so as to allow a shooter to change from a .243 to a .308, to a 7mm-08. All of which are on a repeating platform bolt rifle (straight pull) unlike a Thompson Center which is a single shot.
Are they the best rifles in the world? I couldn't say, but I would guarantee that if you had a chance to hold one and feel the way they balance and operate, you'd like them. It really boils down to why someone buys a Mercedes Benz as opposed to a Toyota. Both will get you where you want to go, but one has a lot more prestige.
Ps- look at their D99 drillings rifles, and the K95. Those are cool! The K95 chambered on .222 is gonna be my graduation present to me this spring. ( also look at the F3 shotgun, that thing is pricey! )
