CA. Bear Hunting

Does anyone hunt Northern Ca. Which counties have bears in the northern part of the state, which counties would be the top three, also any good outfitters/guides using hounds in the area?

Trinity, Tehama and Humboldt counties all hold bears as does Shasta and probably every other northern California county. The Yolla Bolla wilderness used to be a houndsman's prime area, but I don't know about now. Pick up a few issues of Western Outdoor News (WON). Won has ads and sometimes articles about bear hunting. One thing, ask for and check references. Too many people don't do that. I'm not sure, but I think the libs' may have been successful in shutting down bear hunting with hounds. The F&G proclamation will have that information.

Lassen and Plumas counties have bears, I know, I seen them. I have no idea about guides or outfitters here cause I don't hunt bears. But I do see bears in trucks sometimes around here whenever bear season is.

I hunted Shasta County this past fall and treed the biggest bear I have personally seen, roughly 400-450 hog with a really nice pack of Leopard Curs. The man to chat with is Randy Oller from Burney, CA. He goes by Gray Fox on the Shade Tree forum. Awesome country, lots of oaks, country side wasn't tooo steep and fairly open compared to up here and enough roads to get around. I was down there for three days and hunted for two of them. Work a fair size bear the first day but lost it where some wood cutters had spent the morning and the dogs couldn't get the track worked out. I am going again next fall, it was a blast!
