Pheasnt distress call.

Has anyone had much luck with a pheasant distress call? I just purchased the Johnny Stewart tape. To be honest it's a pretty bad recording but even my own bad tapes have called in animals.

Nothing catches my eye faster than somebody saying that product with our name on it is bad. I listen to all of our cassettes on fairly constant basis to see if our duplicators are doing a decent job. I am not aware that the pheasant recording has any problems.

It is one of the cleaner tapes, certainly when compared to much of our competition. That does not mean you could not get a bad one. Out of the thousands we produce some occassionally are not acceptable and we gladly replace them.

If you have become the unlucky one who got a bad tape, possibly recorded too hot or put on bad tape from our supplier I want to hear it and will gladly have Hunters Specialties send you another one that hopefully will sound better.

Does the recording sound defective from a production standpoint or does the harshness of the pheasants voice seem objectionable?

Email me and let's get you satisfied with Johnny Stewart product.

I've got the pheasant distress tape and it is clear and works well. I use it around pear orchards where the pheasants hang out. It works good. Bruce

As long as the issue of tapes are up, I have a JS couger tape that I can hear birds on. The tape has good sound. Has any one else noticed this or is it just me?

GS,
I've used your tapes for years and have had great success. All previous tapes have sounded clear and without flaws. I have two problems with the pheasant tape:
1) There is a background squelch sound that accompanies the cries.
2) There are periodic instances of fast-forward (like a real quick Chip & Dale version of the call).

Your other tapes play fine in my machine. I'm off to Wyoming tomorrow for antelope and coyotes but will try returning the tape when I'm back in town.

I haven't had any luck with the pheasant call but you might want to talk to Redfrog about his experiences with his cock call.

Since he is a very busy man, I should probably help him out by telling you fellas a very interesting situation that happened to old Redfrog. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Mr. Frog invited me down to a join him in a visit to a gun show being held in Calgary, Alberta. We milled about the show, looking at various items, guns, optics, etc. It felt great to be away from the wives for a while. Well, old Redfrog is always on the look out for a good deal, you see. He walked by a table, when out of the corner of his eye he spotted the find of the weekend. There is was, still in the box; a pheasant cock call. Old Mr. Frog, being the cheapy he is, decided that he was going to have this call. And no more than the going rate of course. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

After about an hour and half of beating the vendor down. He finally made the purchase of the cock call. Personally, I am surprised he never asked him for a payment plan on it but I guess mother loosened the purse strings this weekend. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I guess old Froggy thought this old call was going to be the cats' meow because you could just see the smile on his face for the remainder of the stroll through the aisles. I knew he could just not wait to blow on this call. Kinda of like a kid at Christmas with his new toy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

We continued to room the room looking for good deals but none more to be found. As we walked outstide, old Frog was talking my ear off about his new find. He just couuldn't wait until we got out of city limits to strut his stuff with his new call and started the lonesome tunes on the way to the parking lot. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well, the wild call of the cock was working better than he knew. While we got some weird looks, a couple of Alberta's finest northern woman happened to walk by and hear old cocky. It must have been music to their ears because they looked over at us and said to Frog, "You're turning me on". Well I couldn't believe it, maybe I was using the wrong technique all these years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Anyways, I really don't know much more than that about pheasant calls, but I am sure old Red can fill you in on the rest. Man, am I going to pay for this! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I really think that this little story could get me into the hunter of the month award?

Greg
