7/300wsm?

looking for a good long range (6-1000yd) gun with good knock down power and excellent accuracy trying to keep recoil to a minimum dont want to get int 338 type of recoil and have been looking into this 7/300 wsm anyone have suggestions?

I have a .300 WSM in a Browning ShortTrack and like it. Despite what some think, with bullets of 180gr max it is the ballistic equal of the .300 Win Mag.

The 7mm WSM has some advantages as the bullet BCs are generally better. Don

As a postscript, I checked Hodgdon's reloading data. Using 150 gr slugs they show max velocities of, both using a 24" barrel;
.300 WSM - 3410 fps
7MM WSM - 3197 fps
So, with those loads, the 7mm would have less energy for a long way out but would have lighter recoil. However, if the 7MM wasn't enough for the job, the advantage the .300 has wouldn't put it in a different category. Don

I don't know that I would pick the 25-06 for those distances.

One problem you have to watch out for with the WSM is magazine length and seating depth with 180gr VLD type hunting bullets.

I know Berger got two different 180gr and one if for the 1/9 twist barrels other 1/10 twist.

If you get serious you might want to buy some case/bullets/dies and seat some bullets.

In the case of the .300 WSM, even the 180 gr starts to compromise powder capacity and heavier than that, the .300 Win Mag takes over as it isn't as length constrained. Don

One thing to keep in mind is that Berger has been known to drop bullets or change design in his line up so be careful building around one bullet. Berger coming out the 7mm 195gr VLD this year.

That should have an impressive BC. Don
