what do you guys think of this cartridge? I was thinking a custom calling carry rifle in this caliber.
Does anyone know of a good place for ammo, or is this a strickly form your own brass/load your own type?
Any info would be appreciated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

This cartridge, also known as the 5.7mm Johnson or 22 Spitfire, was introduced in 1963 for the Johnson Guns, Inc. alteration of the U.S. M1 Carbine. This was a clip fed semi-auto with a folding stock advertised as a survival gun. Production was later undertaken in limited numbers by Plainfield in New Jersey.

I would think the ammo would be collector fodder by now. Here is a link with a little more info (http://www.reloadbench.com/cartridges/wmmj57mm.html)

I ran across a barrel, and dies a couple of weeks ago at a local gun show. $275 IIRC. I didn't buy them and then found out the dies are almost $200! Brass is not commercially available, as far as I know, but must be formed from .30 carbine brass. I was thinking of doing the same thing, then figured it would be a lot cheaper and easier just to get a Mini-14.

Barrels are available through Numrich.

If your interested in a necked down version of the M1 Carbine case you could take a look at the .19 Calhoon Badger. It's a Carbine case necked down to .19 an has some interesting ballistics as well as excellent reported accuracy. He sells complete guns, dies, and bullets. Not a .224 but it's pretty cool looking round none the less.
