At the club today and a friend from Texas was there. He started telling me about a new rifle he has on order with Gunwerks rifles. OH BROTHER! It may be all true but sounded like one heii of a sales pitch to me. He talked about how curvature of the earth effected a bullet, how shooting east will be different than shooting west, never sight your rifle in shooting north or south. You thought he was about to have an orgasm while telling me about it. He has bought different instruments to help determine scope adjustments ( OK, I'll agree there) and its topped off with a NightForce scope designed just for Gunwerks??? And the total at the end of the day is $9200.00. That sales person is on the ball. Salesman of the week award!!! This will be his elk rifle. OOOOrighty!

This may all be true but its alot of rifle to shoot elk with. JMO

I think the rifles start about 5k without all the goodies. One could spend $9200 pretty easy if he wanted an out of the box ready to hunt 1200 yard custom rifle with all the necessary equipment to shoot long range. Most quality custom built rifles will cost in excess of 4k. Just the scope and G7 range finder is probably $3500.

You could easily build a rifle for far less than that with all the goodies. A rifle build isn't what gets you to 1200 yards, shooting does. And 1200 yards on game is some amazing shooting.

Do some looking around and you'll see how well receptor the BOW guys are using their Gunwerks rifles for some long range wounding...I mean hunting of critters.

My boss has a huskemaw scope he's looking to sell. He got it as a gift to himself when he got back from Africa. I think he wants 600 for it. It's the 5-20 model.

for $9200 i would expect a lot.

seems like a good custom gun with top of the line optics might be doable at a couple grand less. paying for the hype of the name.

personally i would not buy one of their guns, BECAUSE it has their name on it!

I'm thinking for that much $$ it would be gold plated. Granted, optics run about $2200. That still leave $7000.Thats one fine custom build buy one of the best smiths and you'll probably have some change left over.

To each our own. I think some of the 3000-3500 custom builds are crazy. And as far as paying for a name I think the same could be said about some of the 2 k scopes. If that's what you wanna spend so be it. BUT!!! YOU BETTER NOT MISS!! Lol

My son wondered in to there test range here in Wyoming while working for the game and fish dept. They let him shoot one of their rifles out to 1200 yards. He was impressed with the accuracy.they demonstrated their scope and ballistic capabilities. He didn't have the money for one of their rifles but felt they did deliver on extreme long range promises.

Could not agree more!

Id rather build a rifle off a 700 and stick a leupold on top and stay under $3K and still shoot as good as one of thoe rifles.

that's all it is, sales pitch for guys with to much money who dont dont know any better.

does that guy even shoot or practice long range? Im sure he might now, but just because one has a $10K set up dont mean he has the time or place or know how to become proficient with it.

My buddy has a christianson arms 7 mag with huskemaw and thats all he talks about. I get tired of hearing about the $5K rifle/scope and how he thinks you need one of them to shoot worth a dam when he just got into the game and watches far to much best of the west television. He was suckered to. I never did hear back from him after we went out and I outshot him and made him look silly with my lowly $3K set up.

Oh well, to each there own I guess, cant fix stupid

I live in between both Gunwerks and Best of the West. They're only 50 miles apart. I've been to both shops many times. This long range game is growing big time ! Gunwerks is just now moving into a brand new shop on a big chunk of ground they bought, and can now do their range work right on site. BOTW let me handle a prototype of their new Huskamaw last week, wait till you hear about that baby ! Anyway, I'm happy with my small time gunsmith (works out of his basement) and Vortex/Leupold scopes lol.

Yep, you're right about that.
I know guys that'll pay 10 grand for an ATV, or 40 grand for a dang bass boat.
Geez.

If someone thinks they can just buy a rifle and start shooting 1200 yards at Elk or whatever might be in for a shock if they don't practice at those ranges. I think most guns are way better than the shooter.
