The AK74 is just as adequate for yotes as is an ak47. The 5.45x47 cartridge is a takeoff of both the 223 and the 7.62.39. it was developed against klasnakovs wishes but the ballistics are very close to 223. 63 grain bullets out of a necked down 7.62 case. This sounds like the 220 russian from which the PPC cartridges were developed. If you can find one, there were a few east german SSG's brought over here in the mid 90's chambered for this round. Came with a scope, heavy barrel, big wood stock, excellent trigger. There were sold at the time for about 500. The other thing about this round is you can get russian or rommanian ammo. The russian is loaded much lighter than the rommanian. In the bolt gun the rommanian ammo is to hot in the summer, but OK in winter.
