VX-3 1.5-5 or 2.5-8

Anyone know the best place to buy a Leupold VX-3 either in 1.5-5 or 2.5-8?

Also, does anyone have either of these scopes mounted to an AR? If so could you post a picture and/or tell me what you think of it?

I have a Vari-X III 2.5x8 on 1 AR and on a .223 Mark X Mini Mauser. I have a VX III 2.5x8 on a second AR.
I have had some pretty good luck picking all of these up at gun shows for a little less than half price. I had other scopes to use while I waited to find what I wanted. You may not have the option to wait. I kind of like these scopes, as they offer a good field of view at close range while offering enough magnification for the rare longer shot. Your situation may be different than mine.
I did get one with a "cloudy" objective lens. I couldn't see the cloudy at the gun show and couldn't tell looking thru the scope, due to a combination of dusty lens and poor lighting. Leupold fixed it free. Leupold's warranty is the main reason I'm willing to buy a used Leupold scope.
 
I ended up getting the 1.75-6 vx3, I'm thinking that it'll be plenty.

I really don't have much options of gun shows unless I travel a bit, usually off setting any savings I'd find.

Now I need to find an aero mount for the thing, trying to keep it light.
 
I had a VX-2 3x9x40 on my Rock River Coyote Carbine and just pulled it off for a Mark AR MOD - 1 1.5x4x20mm Fire Dot SPR. I don't have it in hand yet but think it will make my rifle more adaptable to a variety of situations.
 
I ordered the 2.5-8 today, I figure I can compare the two and return the one I don't want.

Seems 2.5-8 is very popular, I figured I might as well look at it

Thanks for the picture, by the looks of it I might need to get an extended mount instead of the rings I ordered

I too needed to get extended bases to fit my 2.5-8 on my Sako 75 long action

No problem.

With the generous eye relief on the 2.5-8 and the short AR mounting space can be an issue. Cantilever mounts are popular.

Here is another AR with a CASV handguard and a 2.5-8.
