Anyone have any experience with the Howa Hogue Kryptek Full Dip Rifle Package chambered in 223? Saw one at my local gun shop and it looked and felt really good. Originally I was looking at purchasing a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in 223 but have read mixed opinions on it. This will just be a bench rifle to play around with. If you fellas recommend something else please let me know. I'd like a bull barrel with no longer than a 20" barrel.

I don't have that particular Howa, but I have some experience with Howa rifles. I have a Weatherby Vanguard, which is made by Howa, it is the Predator model with a heavy 22 inch barrel in 223, and it shoots very good. I also just bought a Howa Lightning with the 20 inch barrel in 223. Haven't shot it much, but it has a very sweet trigger, two stage that breaks cleanly at 2 1/2 pounds. However, the stock may just be the clunkiest looking and feeling one I've ever seen. I must admit though, that I am partial to the Remington 700's. I would buy the Remington over the Howa, but either one should be a good choice.

Read somewhere that on the Remington Tactical SPS the barrel really isn't free floating once a bipod or sand bags are used for shooting. That the barrel will touch the stock when shooting but didn't affect accuarcy. Most people were ditching the hogue stock and the trigger on it for something better. I really don't want to purchase a rifle and start replacing parts. I still have time to think about it. Not in any rush yet.

iv personally never owned a howa. a buddy of mine did though and I have shot it. I also have a Remington 700 with a Hogue stock on it. I personally like the Hogue for what it is. if you worried about it flexing b/c it does a little. you could always have it bedded.

The Howa Lightning that I just bought has a completely free floating barrel. The barrel channel on the stock looks like it could also be used for the heavy barreled version of the Howa, instead of the sporter barrel that's on mine. I only bought the rifle because I got a good price on it, and more than likely won't end up keeping it. I've only shot it a few times, but it seems to be an accurate rifle. Now, I bought a Remington 700 ADL Walmart special back on Black Friday, just because of the price and the rebate. This rifle, a 243, has about a cheap a stock that is made, and it has a nowhere near free floated barrel, but is just as accurate.....if not more so.....than the Howa with a free floated barrel. I'm of the opinion that there are other factors to consider rather than the free floating barrel one. By the way, I have a Model 700 SPS Tactical in 308, and haven't really shot it enough to judge it, but it's not a bad stock. I like it better than I do the Howa stock.

I called shooter shack in poplar bluff trying to get a howa hogue kryptek cerakote package and said they couldnt get one yet to check back later in the summer.

Looks like I'll probably end up purchasing a SPS Tactical 223. Just not sure on the barrel size. Should I stick with the 20" or go with the 16.5"? I don't have any plans for a can anytime in the near future.

I have the Weatherby Vanguard S2 in 7mmRM. My buddy has the Howa 1500 with Hogue overmolded stock. Both are shooters!

I also have a 700 sps varmint (1 in 12" 26" bbl vs the 1 in 9" in the Tactical) in .223. Bedded the stock and replaced the X-mark trigger with a RB. Shoots like a laser. On the far other end of the spectrum...I had a SPS ADL in .308 that couldn't hit the dirt if it fell off the bench. Factory loads were at best 3". Sold it before it gave me an ulcer.
