Amazon has the prostaff rimfire II for $119 and the buckmasters II as low as $100. One of these will go on a 17 hmr, the question is which one? The rimfire sounds like a better fit, but the buckmaster is cheaper and looks very similar. So are their any major differences between these as far as reticle, glass, durabillity?

The Buckmasters II appears to be a first generation ProStaff. It will have a 100 yard parallax setting. Depending on what range you intend to shoot with the .17, the Buckmaster II will probably a good fit.

there is a reason the prices on those are so low. all this new buckmaster II lineup is made in stinking CHINA. no different than a barska, simmons or some of the other cheap chinese crap now. sad really.

Everything is made in china, whats new? Im just wondering if these scopes are worth it or if i should move up to the more exspensive nikons.

Its true. Go to leupold's website and they state on their site that they import their glass from china! As a matter of fact almost all rifle scopes use chinese or japanese glass, 2 exceptions are US optics and Scmidt & Bender. That brand at the top? Yea nightforce? Japanese glass. Im not saying "oh japanese made, stay away" Nightforce glass is extremely good glass. Most big name scope companies rigorously inspect the glass for any defects and grade it for various models. A VX I may have C grade glass, while a VX III may have B grade glass and so on.

Not to answer your question, but there are a couple of the "old style" Buckmasters for sale in the Classifieds for just a bit more money than you are discussing. Might want to check them out first.

Big difference in Japanese and Chinese. And Leupold may use that off-shore glass, but the tubes are machined and scope assembled in the US. That is another big difference...but you seem to have it all figured out.
