SR-4759

Does anyone know if the old Dupont SR-4759 is the same as IMR-4759.
A 4 pound can unopened of Dupont 4759 was given to me.
I am loading 7mm International. There is some load data yet to be found for this old round and IMR SR-4759 but I have not been able to determine if the two powders are close enough to use the data.
This would be for a 10 inch single shot pistol.

John, I have the first reloading manual I bought (Lyman 40) circa 1955 which says:

Quote:DuPont 4759 is an "SR" powder-Sporting Rifle. It was designed to replace the old bulk S R #80. It does not work well in pistols and revolvers with their short barrels, and is intended for reduced and midrange loads in rifle cartridges only. No. 4759 develops slightly higher velocities with lower pressures than #80, and leaves practically no deposit in the bore. This large grained tubular powder was developed in 1941. Care should be taken in measuring it because of the grain size.

Not familiar w/7mm International. Book shows 4759 w/lead bullets only in 7mm Mauser (7x57)rifle: 6 gr./84 gr. cast @ 1200 fps, 10 gr/120 @ 1300fps, 16.6 gr./138 gr. lead @ 1775fps.

Hopefully someone else can come up with some more useful info.

Regards,
Clarence

Thanks CD. Thats about what I had thought but I was finding scraps of info about use in 7mm R.
I guess there is better powders for the purpose.
7mm International Rimmed is a 1970s era Silhouette cartridge. It is 30-30 Winchester necked down to 7mm. Basically replaced by 7-30 Waters but still a good cartridge.
