Found one today. Its real close to a 9 out of ten on the outside. Looks that good on the inside too. Its a tang safety red pad rifle in 25-06, with a standard contour barrel. Blueing is real nice. Has original Ruger mounts and an older 4x12 Tasco scope. As typical, whats it worth???

Good for you, Bill. I happen to have an older twennyfive ought tang safety Ruger myself. Got a 3-9X Leupold on mine. A good shooter but not one I shoot all that much now.

I hope you enjoy yours. Pretty much a given that you will I think.

$500 'round these parts. People are snatching up the tang safeties with regularity and they never last long at that price if they are 9/10 condition.

Took it to the range today, mainly for a function test. Load was 100gr Nosler BT w/ 51 grains of IMR4451. First shot low and right then 4 under an inch. 3 you could cover with a dime, 4 with a quarter. Had a lot of wind and was trying to rain but it functions just fine.

Not bad accuracy discounting the flyer, which happens to us all sometimes. The 25-06 is a great cartridge.

It was mainly a function test. I did no load work at all. Just looked on Hodgdon's sight and picked a load. I used book OAL too. Gonna have to do something about that Tasco though. I have a new Nikon setting on the shelf. Maybe I'll use it. I only shot 5 rounds then went and watched the black powder skeet match that was going on. What a Hoot! Those guys were having a ball! Wobble trap with Black Powder shotguns!!

See, Bill? Aint you glad you bought it now?

Beats me why the 25-06 aint as popular now as it once was. Varmints to Elk that twentyfive can do it all and do it well.

Years ago I had a Sendero in 25-06 and let a friend talk me out of it. Big mistake!! Saved all my stuff knowing "Someday" there would be another. Not a Sendero but the Ruger looks like it might be a shooter. It is pleasing to the eyes too!! Typical nice Ruger wood and deep deep blueing!!

Found a Sako A7 Long Range today in 7 mag but the check book said NO!!!!!!!!

I was at the Boise gun show today and saw a plethora of tang safety M77 Rugers. My buddy that I went with noticed it first how many there were. And all right around the $500 price range too. So many of them were just in excellent condition too. Sure wish that I had hung onto my original M77V .220 Swift. If trading it off was not the dumbest thing that I ever did it was certainly in the top two!

They are bringing a little more than that around here but really haven't been paying that much attention to them until now. Sure like to find a #1 heavy barrel in the same caliber!! Wannamacher is the first of April. I been rat holeing but need to stay out of the gun shops till then.

P.S. There's a red pad heavy barrel in Swift for sale on Accurate Shooter

Oh thanks Bill but I have to watch my bucks for a few months. Got a ground squirrel/jackrabbit hunt in Nevada in a couple of weeks and then my annual Wyoming prairie dog hunt in June. Both of them with members here on PM. And plan on a motorcycle ride up to Canada come July or August to visit yet another PM member there! He promised to let me shoot a few of his pre '64 Model 70's (one being a .220 Swift of course!) so how can I pass that up?

Did I tell you that my car is 20 years old and my truck is 22? There is a reason for that!
