Truck gun?

Accurate, short, a lighter 6x6.8 16” surpressed ar would be my ultimate truck gun. It would be able to reach out there a little ways and offer quick follow up shots proably shoot 75s with ar comp. seems to be the go to load for the 70-75g loads.

Knights Armament 11.5" Mod 2 CQB
Knights Armament back up iron sights
Aimpoint Comp M4s red dot
Aimpoint 3x magnifier on flip to side LaRue mount
Surefire SOCOM suppressor
Surefire miniscout light (the new 500 lumen model)
Surefire 60 round mag with Hornady 75gr TAP ammunition
LMT SOPMOD stock
Magpul MIAD grip
Magpul MS2 sling
BADASS Safety
Geissele Super 3 Gun trigger

Kinda like this.

"Truck Gun" = Open sight stainless mini-14 for anything that is flopping injured in the ditch or coming my way with evil intent!

My good stuff only comes out of the safe when I am going hunting.

A truck gun is what I use almost everyday, light, removable magazine, smooth quiet operation, moa accuracy, shorter than 22" barrel so it doesn't chip the windshield easily, and a good magnification scope.
Mine is a Tikka T3x Superlight with a Zeiss 3-15 Scope and has already made a big impression on the coyote population.

I have always thought of a "Truck Gun" as the gun I would have with me all the time, maybe even when I didn't have a specialized gun for a specific activity. so My truck gun would have to be able to handle a large range of duties, coyotes, deer, varmints and plinking. My truck gun is a Marlin 336 30-30Win. Its the one that I am always likely to have just in case I have need of a rifle for a situation that I didn't anticipate...an example would be I was looking for a property that I had permission to hunt elk on. I found the property and was heading home and spotted a coyote on some public land. The 336 got a chance to speak and the coyote took a dirt nap. I also take the Marlin when I am hunting grouse in the mountains...I don't carry it, but I have it in the truck...just in case.

For many years a stainless iron sighted mini-14 and an old bang around model 12 12ga.
The mini-14 is now in my boat and was replaced by a Ruger 77 stainless .223 with the then new paddle stock I had won in a raffle, that was so fugly it was destined for the pickup.
The model 12 went to a neighbor's son who feel in love with it after borrowing it(same kid got another Ruger Fugly Stick off me as well) and was replaced by an old beat up 12ga 870 Wingmaster.

Don't currently have one. Want to have one, but every time I even think of keeping a rifle in my truck over night it seems to develop a new spot of rust. Thinking of buying a cheapo ruger American, something that I don't value aesthetically.

I agree,Moderately expensive,
lightweight, short barrel, reasonably accurate to 200yds(never had occasion to shoot an animal beyond that), removable box magazine, commonly used, readily available caliber capable of taking the occasional deer, threaded barrel for suppressed fire, 2x7 variable scope. I found that pretty much in my Ruger American Ranch rifle,7.62x39. My new truck gun.

I use a 6.8 SPC AR-15 carbine, with a Vortex Sparc II on it, and some co-witnessed MBus sights. I would prefer my M1A Scout, but the theft risk keeps that one at home.

Squeeze

Ruger M77, 260 Rem, 3-9 Burris. It's plenty of gun for everything I might run into and it isn't a pain to pack with me investigating a place on foot

I always have one of my marlin lever guns in the pickup. Usually a 30-30 but now have a 44mag that I like a lot too. Always a coyote caliber in there in the fall and winter but the lever guns are big enough for any troubles I may have.

My truck gun is a Ruger American Ranch in .556 it is wearing a 2x12 Leupold, and it is about perfect for my needs. Short and light with detachable magazines.
