Wilson Combat .458 HAM'R

That's pretty neat. I wonder what breaks when you feed that 458 SOCOM monster losd in to a standard AR15 chamber? I'm betting extension failures and the obligatory bolt.

Looks pretty cool. I looked up the velocities and says 300gr bullet 1750-1800. It really doesn't have much if anything on a 450 bushmaster. Atleast in my experience. I was pushing the 275gr Barnes just over 2,000 according to my magneto speed.

My 458 SOCOM is launching 300 gr. Barnes TTSX bullets at 1850 FPS, so I don't see the gain here. As for stuff breaking, we shall see. I haven't had any problems yet. I had to put a Limbsaver pad on my Magpul ACS stock, because the 458 SOCOM will get your attention, when one pulls the trigger. I bounced the Bushnell Elite scope off my shooting glasses once, when I wasn't paying attention to where I had the stock adjusted to. My point is my loads are not mild, but are not showing signs of pressure, either. I had to back my 300 gr. jacketed HP loads down a bit, as those were showing ejector swipes, but I expected that, since TTSX bullets can be driven faster, before pressure signs show up, typically. I will report back, if I experience any parts failures with the 458. WC can call their 458 variant, the "Ham'r", but the 458 SOCOM was already that.

Squeeze

I was getting at that i don't think the juice is worth the squeeze for proprietary parts and brass when it Can t do anything the SOCOM or Bushmaster cant

I think I'll stick to my plans on building a .458 SOCOM. That looks like a lot of extra cabbage for a modest increase in performance.

OK, now I get it. WC shortened an AR-10 bolt, and changed the barrel extension, to raise the max. pressure of the 458 SOCOM, to squeeze another 150-200 FPS out of that cartridge, and keep it in a AR-15 sized lower. I can see some uses for this. Military and Dangerous Game guides need, and will pay for the extra velocity, and promise of improved durability, of this rifle. Until my 458 SOCOM shows it is prone to part failures, I will consider the "durability" part of the new WC rifle a theory, not a fact. And for the extra velocity, at the ranges I intent the 458 SOCOM to be effective at, one will not miss the velocity bump. I think there is a limited market for this enhancement, but at this point I am not seeing the value.

Isn't this kinda the same thing Remington did when they made the 30 RAR? I guess the HAMR has a shortened AR-10 bolt carrier, whereas the 30 RAR was just an AR 10 bolt mated to a AR 15 carrier. I guess I just can't help but wonder where the weak link ends up, when you make hybrids like these.

I get 1900 FPS with Rainer 334gr HP's in my .50 Beowulf using Lil'Gun powder... I don't see this offering as doing anything worth the asking price... YMMV.
