B-Mag?

I went to a small gun show in Tulsa today. Not much there. A few nice rifles that were over priced as expected. Some loaded ammo and prices were mixed. Some not to bad and some just stupid.

I did talk with a guy that had a custom Savage B-Mag. Supposedly had the action trued by some company and a Shilen barrel. It had a after market trigger but don't remember the make and it was in a Boyd's Pro Varmint with a Vortex scope. Claimed it was a one holer. I just took his word for that. LOL! He said he had $3000 in it and wanted $2500. That's a lot of money for a B-Mag. Personally I think he may have a hard time selling it.

I was going to ask if the same guy was selling some kind of Elixir from the trunk of his car too.

I don't know anyone that even sells trigger kits/parts let alone an aftermarket trigger for the Bmag.

I would have asked him to pop the barreled action out of the stock and show me that after market trigger.

To bad we couldn't see a pic of this 3k customized Bmag.
 
Actually Timney makes a trigger. I put one in my Bmag. I'm much happier with it. Mine came with the nice Boyd laminate stock.

I was in shock after he told me what he had invested. I mean dang man its a B-Mag. I think there are better ways to spend 3 grand.

Could you provide a link to that please.

The Bmag trigger is a whole different animal than anything Savage has in their other rimfires and I've never seen anything for the Bmag.

My apologies it was a RUGER RAP that I replaced. I bought three or four triggers from their business down the road two years ago and thought that was one of them.

Rifle Basix makes a trigger for Savages rimfire rifles. Sav-rat. Says it works in all Savage rimfires with accu-trigger. It doesn't say it won't work in the B-Mag but doesn't say it will either.

As I mentioned earlier, the Savage Bmag trigger assembly is quite different than any other RF or CF Savage bolt action trigger.

Like the rest of the gun the trigger assembly is rather odd and cheesy. But, much to my surprise they do respond very well to a little massaging over. With not a great deal of work I was able to get mine tuned to a very crisp 2 lbs.
 
I just did a quick search last night. Guess I missed that. OOPs. Wonder what kind of trigger the guy at the gun show had?? Makes you wonder if it was really a Shilen barrel. Maybe he was just looking for a sucker. LOL, I couldn't sell a $300 rifle. How did he expect to sell one for $2500???
 
For that kind of money a person could just buy a Magnum Research .17WSM or Franklin Armory F17. Doesn't make sense to dump that kind of money into a B-Mag. The heavy barreled ones shoot just fine right out of the box anyways. Good enough to head shoot prairie dogs at 100 yards.
 
If anyone is willing to spend 2500-3000K on, any, factory made off the shelf 17 WSM they'd be money ahead spending a little more and buying a TS Customs RimX 17 WSM build.
 
Just me...but if I was going to spend that kind of coin on a rimfire, it would be a 22. At least you can get quality ammo for it.

And if comp. target shooting was my objective I would completely agree but as a ground squirrel/PD rimfire cartridge the 17 WSM is King and for that kind of use I'd take one over a 22LR with match quality ammo every time.

Aw, come on..... Nothing is as challenging as shooting pd's at 400 yards with a 22 LR.
