The hands-down very best out of the box rifle I ever bought was a Gen I American in 6.5CM. My gunsmith had it on display in the Magpul stock for two years and nobody wanted it so I got it for cost. He smoothed out the action a little for me and tinkered with the mags and receiver to get it to reliably feed 156 EOL’s at about .010” jump. I worked up loads for it with about 7 or 8 different powder and bullet combinations and up to now it has never shot a 5 shot group bigger than .920”at 100 yds. I put a two stage Timney and a grenade bolt knob on it. It’s ugly but oh so hard not to love.
