What makes a barrel slow or fast?

Example.... I've ready over and over now that Tikka barrels are usually very slow.

Twist rate, barrel material, barrel wear, and bullet design/composition are some factors.

As well as bore diameters and land profiles.

And I'll add that bullet diameters from different manufacturers, & even lot numbers, can vary over one thou also.

Being left hand twisted the rotation of the earth on this hemisphere take more forces to get out the barrel.... OK that is B.S. but funny.. direction of twist has no bearing on velocity. either direction works great.

It's just all the answers I could think of Alf and Bowhntr6pt covered already.

I had a slow barrel in a BAR. Tried to teach that sucker to shoot sub MOA groups for months but it never learned to do so.

Reload vs factory ammo, a slow velocity performance barrel will be what it is.
