This morning I found a package on my porch from my nephew, imagine my surprise when it contained my Grail Scope.

Leupold VariX-3 1.5-5x20mm w/German #1 reticle.

Many years ago a had a Herters 1.5-4.5x20 with a German #1 and it was one of my favorite hunting scopes. In a fit of generosity ( and stupidity, should have swapped out the scope) I gave it to a neighbors son on a rifle for his first deer rifle.

I have a few scopes with German #4's but never found another #1 when bucks, need and availability came together. I do have a German #1 in a Meopta 1.5-6 but it is a strange little scope in FFP.

At our first PM convention my nephew and I hunted together and he brought a neat little Model 70 Featherweight in 243 with the Leupold VariX-3 1.5-5x20 w/German #1, it was his favorite deer rifle when hunting in UT and WY, he lives in UT. I told him how much I loved that scope.

I just spoke to him, he sold off a bunch of gear and purchased a S&B Polar 1.7-10 for his main hunting rifle. So he sent me the leupold. Needless to say I'm excited to get it on a rifle. I bought a Savage 10 in 223 a couple years ago and a suppressor this past spring and I'm going to have the barrel shortened to 16" and thread it, I've done the trigger and fitted the stock. The Leupold and the short 223 should make a great calling rifle.

Thank you Jon

Anyone, have suggestion for a gunsmith to thread the barrel.

Thanks CS, I spent two day trying to figure out what ADCO meant. I finally type it into Google, it's a guns shop that does threading. Again thank you.

ill second ADCO. great little company and their turnaround is stellar

i only live about a little over an hour from them, so mailing stuff is about a 10 day turn around for me to get it door to door.

theyve done multiple barrels for me now, and they're all shooters when they come back. IIRC everything they cut/thread gets an 11* target crown

top notch!
