Ok, I got a little excited and couldn’t even think or talk! Yeah, got a little carried away guessing the weight, but still say at least 5lbs.
I’d taken the Redington Euro Combo on the pond casting streamers near the bank and trees just working on accuracy with the mono rig I’m using on this rod. It’s a 3wt rod that has a real limber tip. I was unsure about the quality of the reel, but it had performed great for trout. It now gets my 100% approval rating after this fish.
The ONLY reason I started recording was just to show the boys I had something BIG hooked up on it, lol. I honestly never expected to land it.
Enjoy and don’t laugh or judge, I’m 58 and still feel like a kid when a big one is hooked!!!

Seriously tho, nice job there buddy! I agree, that fish had to be all of 5# ......and tiring it out enough on a 3wt to get it close enough to lip it was no small feat. ....and you didn't even fall overboard! :ROFLMAO:

Those flies I promised are coming, I promise, I've been slacking, sorry.
 
Heck I got the dries!! Hoping next Saturday evening I’ll have a hatch to throw to. If I get 20 or so by lunch I’ll throw dries the rest of the day for fun. Goal is 2-3 Browns for every Rainbow next weekend!!

I wasn’t expecting to catch something like that on that rod. I was throwing a small weighted streamer up against the bank, just practicing my casting near trees and logs with the mono rig. Figured might as well practice down here before heading North. I was paddling back and thought let me make a few cast in the deeper water and count down before retrieving. Thought it was a stump, until it moved. I now know I can handle anything North Ga has trout wise.

Ordering me some 3wt DT WF line to replace the Euro line so if I get in a dry bite that I can’t reach with the mono rig, I can spool it up and attach a leader and dry fly. As stupid as it sounds I’ve been even practicing removing the mono rig and attaching a leader while standing in the hot sun with gnats buzzing my face and sweat dripping in my eyes while wearing my vest, lol. I like to prepare for everything. The last dry bite didn’t last but maybe 20 minutes and I don’t want to waste anymore time than necessary.

Wish y’all had told me fly fishing can be this fun and thought provoking!! I have more ideas than I have time to fish!
 
Looks like a beadhead woolly bugger. They work great for bass and gill. Reminds me of the time I was fishing Tn river (Pickwick area) bank next to a catalpa(?) tree. Surface popper would get small brim that couldn't get hooked but use a dropper/bugger and get the bigger ones deeper. I was in BIL's rubber boat and had to watch the barge traffic though. Never thought deer could swim till I saw one cross the river there.
