Rossi vs NEF Rifles

I'm looking to purchase a single shot .223 as a calling rifle for coyotes and fox. The two I have looked at so far are Rossi and NEF. The NEF has a lot of info on this site and lots of other info on the web. I found very little about the Rossi. I'm leaning towards the NEF right now, due to the option of getting more barrels in the future. I've looked at both guns, and they seem pretty comparable in fit and finish. The Rossi is about 3/4 of a pound lighter.

Which of these two rifles is the better choice? Does anyone have any information on the Rossi? Does Rossi sell extra barrels like NEF?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

NEF makes an light rifle in .223 synthetic which weighs 5.5 lbs. I have one it is a good shooter.
Never heard of a Rossi, can't help with that one.

Do yourself a favor and go for the NEF .223 I have one and I have tried a couple of different scopes on it and it is a shooter, any way you slice it! I would reckon to say that Rossi is not comparable as far as barrel changes and such, as the NEF is. Only Rossi's I know of are the old pump .22's that I remember my folks having when I was a kid. They are nice guns...but I sure do love my ultralight NEF .223 Handi.....light and easy to carry around all day, and the price is right. Peace... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I've seen the Rossi's at Oshman's in Houston. They are similar, with the Rossi being a tad cheaper. I prefer the NEF and that is what I bought. The Rossi does come in a match pair with options that include shotgun/muzzleloader/centerfire/rimfire. They also offer .17HMR. I did not see where you can add barrels but don't know why they couldn't. I'm not sure how the rimfire works since you can't get rimfire barrels to work on NEF rifles, although the shotgun and muzzleloader barrels work on the rifle receivers. Again, I don't think you can beat the NEF.

Thanks for the input guys. After doing some more research, I am going to stick with the NEF.

The Rossi gun in imported from Brazil by a company named Braztech, owned by Taurus. The rifles are new, and no barrels are offered yet. The lady at the customer service number said they would be offering barrels by May or June. They are basically a copy of the NEF. I think Rossi was at one time imported by HR who is also NEF and owned by Marlin. If that isn't confusing you, it sure is me!

Bottom line for me - the NEF is a proven performer from a US company and has lots of barrel options. The Rossi is a bit cheaper, but at $200 for the NEF that is already cheap enough. I'm going to get the .223 standard barrel with a synthetic stock.

Thanks again -

Yellowhammer - A club that I used to hang with raffled one of these Rossi's off a year or so ago. I believe that it was a 20ga/22 rimfire (could have been a 12ga/22 rimfire I can't remember) combo gun. This is in answer to your question about how they handle the rimfire aspect of this rifle. Rossi simply offsets the barrel, looks funny but they displace the barrel upward giving a lopsided appearance to the breach area. The rest of the rifle looks normal enough though.
