Anyone ever make a suit out of baling twine? I was at tractor Supply and the have rolls of it for a good price and its a tan color looks like himp twine. I was thinking of picking a roll up and dyeing some and leaving some natural color and making my a new suit. My old burlap one just smells to bad.

I guess if you could stand a ghille suit made from burlap, then baling twine could be tolerable /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I'm itching just thinking about burlap!!

I am a hay farmer ........ I think that baling twine has a .......... sort of PLASTICY smell ...... but that's just my SMELLER!

Before I bought a roll of twine .... I would track down a cooperative rancher and get a truck load of used twine FREE!!

It does seem that it will take years to get enough twine tied together to cover up yourself.

Hope it all works out well.

Baleing twine will rot if allowed to get wet and not dried properly. Care to guess what that will smell like? Not sure how well it will take dye.

I tried doing one out of the sisal baleing twine. Looked alright to begin with, but it sheds so bad that it looked terrible in very short order. I currently have one complete one that I made of some synthetic that does pretty well, and I will get another one like it in a desert pattern. I also have just the head piece for another that I have been working on that is made from jute thread, and I really like it except that the headpiece alone is as heavy as my entire synthetic suit. On my jute one I may consider adding some sisal twine just to add some lighter color, and some texture change.

Just took my ghillie out, whew!!!!
Hoping for some much needed rain overnight and tomorrow to get some of the funky whew out of it!! After it is good and wet I will bury it for a couple of days in some leaves, lawn clippings, and pine needles, and then drag it down the dirt road on the way to the deer stand. Do this every year.
Was thinking about adding some baleing twine also to get a little bit more of a light coloring(leaving it naturally tan-ish), and was wondering if there is a way to get some of the twine smell on of it? Anyone know a way?

I used jute which is a plant based twine. It stinks as well, kind of an oily smell.I used one rol from TSC which is about 1500 yards,-i think. I dyed some black, brown and green.
There are some good sites that explain how to make ghillie suits.

Wmart has 400yds "Natural Jute Twine" for $1.19. That's what Ghillies are typically made of. Needs to be dyed . Doesn't have a smell. 400yds will go a long way.
