The new 2002-2003 Tennessee hunting and trapping guide is now officially out. Regulations now apply from August 1, 2002 through July 31, 2003. The guide became available today at regional TWRA offices. After Aug. 1, copies can be found where ever hunting and fishing licenses are sold, at least that was what I was told by the TWRA officer I met today. That is also the target date they can be seen on the TWRA website. I was lucky to meet the wildlife officer, as he gave me a few copies.
Talk about a change in appearance! This is not our old plain, handy, stick in your backpack booklet. No sir, this year it is a magazine filled with all kinds of good stuff we need to know, complete with pages and pages of advertisements. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I guess the advertisements do save us money, last year it cost $.11 per copy to promulgate (issue, for us country folks), this year it cost only $.06 per copy. They only printed 500,000 promulgations (don’t you just love those big words), so get yours before they are gone.
Below is a few of the new changes listed:
As of Aug. 1, when these updated regulations become active, the use of ANY caliber rimfire ammunition will be legal for hunting small game. This will then make the .17 HMR small game legal in Tennessee.
If you hunt on WMA’s or PHA’s, all hunters must now have their firearms or crossbows unloaded and CASED while driving on the area or else have it stored in an area of the vehicle that is not EASILY assessable to any of the occupants.
For all you quail hunters out there, the daily quail bag limit has decreased from 8 to 6.
There has been other changes, mostly to big game hunting and/or WMA regulations. Some new big game hunting dates were added but as far as hunting varmints and predators, from what I have read,it looks to be the same as last year.
I won’t go into more detail here. If you plan on hunting in Tennessee I would strongly suggest getting a copy of the new game laws and then read them over real well!

Good reading and hunting
