10/22 Volquartsen Trigger Install Question

I got a volquartsen 2.5 trigger and auto bolt release (plus some other goodies) From my fiancee for xmas. Installed everything and i am having some issues. When i fire the gun the trigger doesn't reset every time. I installed the springs all back where they were supposed to go, but sometimes i almost have to push the trigger forward for it to reset. I have had it apart a few times and everything seems fine..my question was...do you guys use the washers they give you for the hammer? I wondered if maybe that put too much tension on the hammer? Maybe i am wrong. Also, for the auto bolt release..when you pull it back to release it it usually takes two times to pull it back for it to release? Any insite would be helpful...im new to the 10/22 world and don't know if im missing something.

Thanks
Brian

smokin250, go to rimfirecentral.com, look under ruger 10/22 trigger/action, lots of info. Both words and pictures. For rimfire recources, this place is tops.

Use the original Ruger springs. I did use the shims in mine to take the slop out of the hammer, but make sure you still have a couple thou of clearence or it could bind up.

You sure you have the spring installed correctly on that bolt catch assembly? It should pop loose every time you take the pressure off by pulling the bolt back.

But yeah, rimfirecentral has all the reference pictures and such you should need to figure it out.

Also make sure you didn't mix up the disconnector spring with the other small one.

And use the Ruger springs (did I mention that?)

Ask over there if you get stuck, there are guys that are great at helping you figure it out.

+1
lots of info there.

The VQ kit came with the new hammer, spring for the hammer return, and spring for behind trigger i think? Which spring were you using the factory ruger one? And also, the kit came with a small stainless pin, i assumed it was to replace the plunger behind the trigger?

Which Volquartsen kit did you get??? what you just described sounds more like the "Target Hammer Kit" I only know because I have the same kit.

Don't use ANY of the VQ springs.

I think that small pin is a "cheater" to keep the disco aligned until you can drive the longer pin through, then you discard it.

That's what Power Custom gives you, anyway.

Thanks guys i think i got it straightened out tonight. Took it all back apart and replaced a few springs. Polished a few more parts. I put the factory trigger return spring back in, and stoned the trigger a reset as shown on rimfirecentra. Took it out and fired two mags through it flawlessly. The auto bolt release seems to work as long as you pull back on bolt hard. Overall i am very pleased with the trigger for the money spent, would have liked everything to work properly upon first install, but thats life i guess...or my life anyway. Thanks for all the help!!

Going to go run some rounds through it today. Might have to go out and do some tree rat snipping soon. Next thing on the list is address the stock and possibly upgrade optics....who knew a 22 could be such a money pit.
