10 nights in Illinois

Pa Mick and I went to Illinois again this year Jan 11-21. We did not hunt 1 night because of 30mph winds. We had very little action hearing very little and those that did howl were not very vocal and most were in the next zip code. We saw 7 or 8 and manage to shoot 4 and I took a line of hide off the right side of one that would not stop at about 40yds. Shot opportunities came from less than a minute to 39minutes and from distress and vocals at 50/50. Not a very big sample but that is what we found to work OR NOT WORK:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:.
Most of these vids are from Mick's Thermion as he was on the "lucky side" almost every set  😊. The one I did manage to shoot I had turned my vid off after videoing Mick's kill in that set. We were set up about 80yds apart and I panned left after his shot and see one leaving about 90deg from the dead one and about 200+yds. I get him stopped and send it, so we get a double. The old fart in the pic is yours truly. We have no idea why the female Mick shot was acting like she was, but that back-and-forth stuff went on for over 4 min.
In the last vid Mick was about to pull when it decided to leave-Mick thinks it got a whiff of him as he was covering the downwind of a crosswind.
Most nights were breezy/windy (10-20) which in my 25yrs of bowhunting out there is not abnormal). Lowest temp was 3 and warmest night was 24, not bad for Jan. in the Midwest. That being said, it will be our last Jan. trip because of the lack of action. I would really like to be there in Nov/Dec but most of the landowners I have permission to hunt on don't want us there until all deer seasons are over:(.

knock em down and they get up and take off, seems like just when you think, I got him, send another one. looks like you had fun, congrats and thanks for sharing

You did better than my 2 days in AZ last week. We didn't call or see a single thing but the coyotes around my friends house were very vocal and extremely close every night.

Nice write up Mike 👍🏼👍🏼 ! Thanks for leaving out the part on the last set that I forgot to load my rifle 😂 !
Was a great time with many howls heard & little action on the coyotes part ! We did many sets for sure ! Will look forward to the next time we meet 😃 !
