1000yds today

A friend of mine asked me if I'd like to go with him to shoot a range that goes out to 1000yds. Of course I couldn't turn down the invite and said hell ya!!. I took my 308 and he took a 22 CM. The range had multiple targets from 100-1000yds. Everything from Bigfoot and buffalo to 10" and 5" plates. We started at 500yds and worked our way out. I managed 2 or 3 solid hits at the 10" plate at 1000yds and was pretty proud of myself as I had never shot that far.My friend had hits also with his 22 CM. Fun day and I can see this may get addicting.

It is, & I was a full blown addict for over 20 years shooting 600 & 1000 yard Benchrest traveling all over God's creation.

Set a handful of range records & two International Benchrest/World Records.

Own a couple 1K here, Light gun is 5 shots, Heavy Gun is 10.

I can sure see how it would be addicting. One of my friends friend was there giving use crap about a 308 won't make it 1000yds. He's eating crow. Once I had my come ups it was fairly easy. I missed a few times but I'll take the blame for that. It was chilly this morning and you could see the bullet trail as it was in flight. That was really cool and then seeing your target swing before hearing the impact made us all giggle a little.

Better be careful Bill.
Next thing you know you'll be looking for a better long range gun.
Then you'll want to stretch it out further.
Rinse & repeat.
Vicious circle.

It is addicting. I have good luck with the 308 myself. You need to step up to the 6 ARC. I blew my son away making hits with the little round.
Just happen to have a 6ARC. I don't even have a load worked up for it yet. I want change a few things on it before to long.

Alf you have a good point about longer ranges. The range we were at yesterday is planning on putting in a range that goes out to a mile. My buddy and me were joking that we were gonna need a bigger gun. The range we were at is kinda pricey but I know those steel targets aren't cheap. It's $900 a year for a membership and guests pay $40 for the day. I really can't pay that much for a membership but the guest fee isn't that bad. But you need to bring several rifles to stay the day. I shot 35 rounds total so it was a little high but the experience was well worth it.

The goal for long range is to pick a cartridge/bullet combo that stays supersonic to your intended distance. I always used 2000 yards because I could shoot to 1920 at that pasture. The 300 grain 338 slug was nice to spots misses in the dirt. I would assume your range will have a good backstop to help spot shots.

I got tired of the boom & blast from the 338, so I sold it & built a 7-300 WM which stayed SS to 2K & didn't need a brake to spot shots. It was a bit tough on barrels though.

When the 6.5 PRC came out, I sold the 7mm barrel, & built a 6.5 PRC, which also stayed SS to 2K, with less muss & fuss of the previous two, & somewhat cheaper to shoot.

I eventually sold that one too, as it was such a PITA to setup to shoot that far. Currently, I can stay in that pasture & shoot to 1200, 1400 or so if I can get in the upper field before planting or after harvest.

It's all fun.....

My brother won his 1000yd f class championship couple weeks ago. I've yet to go 1000 but I can see the love in it. I better not go down that rabbit hole. Been doing long range bow shooting, talk about fun stuff. It's all fun, who am I kiddin.

That 22 creed with a 80-90 grain bullet should be boringly consistent at the 1k mark.
