I bought a beautiful old (1870's)English 10ga sxs. It is pretty much configured to be an upland shotgun 28 barrels, 7 lb 14 oz with a straight grip.
Alongside one of my upland 12ga shotguns, dimensions are close.
To see if it was going to be a working shotgun or a wall hanger I loaded up some light loads in brass cases 1 1/8 oz over 90gr of FFFG black poweder with a .135 Nitro card, 2-1/2" Fiber wads with a over shot card on top of the fiber wad to keep the shot from setting into the fiber wad and 1 1/8 oz of 9's(handiest for tests). It shot well and with surprising authority considering I was 10grs under the suggested load.. Recoil seemed stouter than trap loads in my modern shotgun, even heavier than the same load in my 12ga MZL.
Looking forward to an ounce of Bismuth 5's for ducks and 1 1/8 of NP #2's to hunt coyotes in the thick stuff
Fun stuff
I'm no stranger to shooting old shotguns for coyotes but most of them are 16ga in fact the last coyote of the season was taken with a 114 yr old German drilling with the shotgun barrels.
