Not to long ago I bought a bunch of Federal 12 ga 3-1/2" Heavyweight 1-7/8 oz #5 shot loads on sale at Rogers Sporting Goods just to take the FHW #5 shot out of them so I could make goose loads with the shot.

Since I had 250 Federal 3-1/2" hulls with the wads, powder and primers in them I decided to reload some with HW13 BB shot and send some them off to Precision Reloading to be tested.

The shells I reloaded with 1-7/8 oz of HW13 BB shot tested well below Max pressure at 1258 fps. Each one of these shells has 86 pellets in each shell. One of my favorite lead free loads for coyotes has been a 3" 1-1/2 oz loads of Remington HD BB shot and they have 70 pellets per shell.

Having 16 more pellets per shell should be a good thing if I can handle the extra recoil. LOL

I used a primer tray to count out 86 BB pellets. Two pellets fit in each hole. I weighed quite a few shot charges and they all weighed about a half pellet to a whole pellet light of 1-7/8 oz.

I put the HW13 BB shot in a big bowl and just scoop the primer tray through the shot. All of the extra pellets run off the primer tray back into the bowl, leaving 86 pellets in the primer tray.

After my SBE trashed my shoulder from recoil, I bought this shotgun for heavy loads. This shotgun is the softest kicking shotgun I Have ever fired when using HEAVY 3" shells, and this is an understatement.

You usually get 5 chokes and sling studs are removable from the stock.

I shoot a lot of 1 1/2 oz loads shooting crows, this shotgun just has a push. You can shoot heavy loads all day wearing a T shirt.

If you root around, you can find these in excellent condition for $850. Mine has never jammed and I have never cleaned the gas system. I shoot sporting clays and 5 stand with it also.

Those loads look pretty nice MR Morris. I’m interested to hear how they do. I’ve been toying with getting more serious about using the shotgun this year. I really like how effect heavier than lead shot does. I’ve been reloading a lot of non lead lately but mostly for the 28 ga. I bought some tungsten to try out but I’m not sure I even want to get a load together as it’s darn expensive.

Beretta 391 12 ga with kick off system, that is a shock absorber.

If you root around, you can find these in excellent condition for around $800-850 in the case with 5 chokes, fiber optic front sight, kick off system(built in shock absorber), and choke wrench. Receiver is made to accept a scope base or clamp on base. Sling swivels detach and are flush mount.

Heavy 1 1/2 oz loads at 1300 fps are a push.

This is a gas operated shotgun, recoil from this shotgun with no kick off system is soft.
