12 GA Federal #4 copper plated vs #2 Hevi-Shot

Hello fellow hunters,
In PA it is illegal to use buckshot for hunting predators.

The shot size that I have to use in my 12 GA Pump for fox is Federal Copper Plated #4 shot in 2 3/4" shells. For coyote I have #2 Bismuth in 2 3/4" shells.

I have a Remington 12 GA Pump Shotgun with a factory choke set at "full". Could I expect to kill coyote or fox at 40 yards with Federal #4 shot? With the #2 Bismuth, could this reach out to 50 yards and kill a coyote or fox?

I wanted to get Hevi-Shot, but my gun will only take 2 3/4" shells. Has anybody bought Hevi-Shot in 2 3/4" ? If so, what kind of range is the Hevi-Shot normally good for when shooting fox or coyote?

Thanks! Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks for the info.

Since I have #2 Bizmuth, I wonder if it is just as good or better than lead.

Does anybody know the difference in range, penetration, deformity, etc... in #2 lead vs #2 Bizmuth?

I guess Bizmuth was invented for water fowl hunters to protect the fowl and waterways against lead. How does it compare in performance?

Run a search for "shotguns for coyotes".I believe it's in the firearms section. You might try and find some BB loads.Very effective in the 30-40 yd range.I use #4 buck and thought it was the best until I tried Hevi-shot.The #4's pattern and hit harder than #4 buck in fact inside 20 yds it's to much.I cut a red fox in half at 22yd.The only Coyote was a bang flop at 43 yds and he was in some brush. The main thing is to pattern the load you choose. That hevi-shot was picky about the tube it went through.Did'nt pattern well with the full or x-full but it liked the Kicks .660 .The only drawback is the price.
Good Luck.
