I was reading about 17 calibers and ran across this one. Caught my interest. Does anyone have any loading, velocity or accuracy information on it? Would love to hear of your experiences good or bad. Planning a 17 caliber 16-17 inch barrel for a Contender and would like a rimmed case. Very early in the planning stages so all input will be appreciated. Also would like to know what other 17's are close to this one in velocity and case size. No particular end use in mind just want to make real little holes from a long way off.

Thanks in advance
Doug

There was a guy that was making Ruger Number 3 (anyone remember those?) rifles into some interesting wildcats. He was taking .454 Casull cases and necking them down to .224 and (I believe) a few .17 calibers as well. It was one hot little number and I certainly do not see why it could not be done without too much difficulty. It sure sounds like fun anyway!

If I remember right the 22 jet was designed from the 357mag cas

Some guys necked the max case down and called it the 22 jet mag

Wouldn't be to much to go to 17 from there [beeep] I would question the pressures

Dies will probably be spendy

Take a look at the 224-32 FA here:

http://www.freedomarms.com/224-32fada.pdf

It is a 327 Federal Magnum case necked down to hold .224" diameter bullets. Freedom arms is chambering it in the M97 revolver.

What I would do is neck down the same case to hold .172 bullets and then you would have a 17 caliber rimmed cartridge.

The .22 Jet was a factory round that came out about 45 years ago. Smith and Wesson made their Model 53 revolver for that round. Wish I had one.
