@DoubleLungRage
yes I diverted to the 17 HMR in the conversation with Crapshoot. Which, over the years (HMR) seems to being doing the same thing in some cases. Why whom know exactly.
And mentioned that I had considered the caliber (17 HMR) on a recent gun purchase. Which I had actually also considered the .21 Sharp after the 17 HMR, then settled on the 22LR.
Why did I not jump on the .21 Sharp, I'm not sure it will be around, as I'm just not seeing it on the shelves in most of my haunts. I don't think it will die, just not sure it will gain traction, certain places will ensure it does have a following by the lead bans.
@crapshoot
Yes sir some of what I found online (posts) with the HMR was actually bolt guns mostly as well as semi auto's in the UK. As well as some in the States (very few).
Now could all of the hoopla with the HMR be boiled down to maybe two or three cases, because of reposting, etc etc. It is possible I'll be the first to admit that.
Could it have been just a case of two manufacturers having produced a (as in 1) bad lot over the course of a year that got out? Sure it is possible. Or that it was stored in bad conditions for a number of years. Sure again feasible.
I'm not condemning the HMR or WSM in the 17 bore. But old ammo or not, should not blow up. Ammo isn't milk it can be stored for decades with no ill effects, unless improperly stored. Now could jacket fouling coupled with old ammo do that ? It is possible, which I'm pretty confident in the people whom post would not ever come out and say "my lack of maintenance and the use of improperly stored ammo lead to my gun failing" or "I (or my buddy before giving to me) left this box of .17 (HMR/WSM) on the dash of my truck for 5 / 10 years before shooting it".
