Here's a link to some additional load data for the .17 Remington and bullets of various weights, including 30 gr.
Reloader's Nest Board
My coyote load in my .17 Remington with a 25.22" Lilja 1 in 9" twist 4-groove barrel is 24.6 gr. of VVN-540 and the Remington 7 1/2 primer. A load of 24.3 gr. of N-540 also gave me great accuracy, but only 3,800 fps. I use the 30 gr. Starke Red Prairie Varmint bullets as my bullet. I asked the folks at VVN about my load and they guesstimated that is was a very hot load, so if you ever try N-540 and think my load looks tempting, please remember to start well below my load and work up slowly. I get 3,900 fps with this load.
I have also used H4895 with with this bullet and the charge weight I use is 21.7 gr. with the Rem 7 1/2 primer. This load only clocks 3,765 fps, but it is super accurate in my rifle. A charge of 21.5 gr. of H4895 was also very accurate and gave me about 3,666 fps.
A load of 22.4 gr. of Varget was also accurate in my rifle and with the two tests I tried with it I got an average velocity of 3,656 fps.
I have read reports where some folks get good results with AA2700 and others like Win 760. I have tried AA2700 with the 30 gr. Kindler Golds and didn't find a load I would use in the field.
I am going to try some N-135 with the 30.8 gr. Hammett and the 27.5 gr. Hammetts when it warms up around here.
