I just read the new Predator Xtreme article on the
.17 Remington Fireball, so I got on the net and did some research, and came across a forum where someone said that Remington was only making 400 of these guns? Has anyone else heard this?

thanks,

I read the article in PX and noticed in the picture a box of factory Remington Premier Accutip cartridges. I wouldn't think the production would be limited to 400 rifles. Doesn't seem logical to tool up for a rifle in new cartridge and only make 400. Article also showed a box of Hornady dies labeled 17 REM Fireball, doubt Hornady would start making dies based on a production run of 400 rifles. Guess we will have to wait and see what happens at the 2007 Shot Show.

It is like this, all firearm factories have a set run of product for the year. 400 might be all they can produce along with all the others they have to make. I am sure there will be more than 400 or they would have not spent all that money and time to produce it.

I just went to Remingtons web site and downloaded the 2007 catalog. It list the rifles that will be chambered in 17 Fireball. Here's the list, SPS Varmint, 700 CDL SF, 700 SPS, 700 VSF, 700 CDL. From what I see it looks like the limited availability rumor is just that, rumor. I can't wait to get one.

I shot the CDL-SF at the Shot Show and Rem had one of every model listed on the shelf at the Show to look at.

I was at the SHOT show this past weekend in Orlando Florida and talked directly to the Remington reps . I told them that I wanted a 700 CDL SF LTD 17 Remington Fireball .I asked how to get on a list to get one of the Limited edition rifles . He told me that I shouldn't have a problem getting one through a distributer . He said that it would be a limited edition but they would probably make around 2000 of them and this model would be like the Remington "Classic" . Next year the Limited Edition will be in a different caliber . I already have these rifles on order through two different distributers and hope to get one of the first available ! As far as the other models that will be chambered in this round , he said that they plan to make as many as they can sell .

So can anyone give an approximate cost for the Limited Edition? I was checking it out on the Remington web site and thought that it looked pretty sweet. Plus, I thought it would be neat to have a limited edition rifle in a rifle that is making a debut of a new cartridge.

I am definitely getting a rifle chambered in the new .17 Remington Fireball. If I can't get my hands on the Limited Edition, I'm thinking maybe the Model Seven. I know the two rifles are different, but they both have some nice purpose alternatives.

I.e. Rem. is only letting a few out the first year to see whether they even continue with the round at all.

Like the now-abandoned 6.8SPC....

I'd have rather that they came out with more factory fodder (like a 40 gr., or 35 gr. load) for the .221 Fireball than the silly little .17.

Have you seen a .17 Fireball yet? They are talking limited production. It will take quite a few just to pay for the tooling. I don't think they are serious. It's in the catalog but that really isn't saying a lot to me.

Can you imagine say Toyota coming out and hyping a new car and giving you as little information as Remington has on this product and saying oh its just going to be a limited production item. That it will be out later this year but we're not giving you a firm date or cost just go to your local dealer and order one.

It is either BS or it is one of the worse laid marketing plans that I've seen come from Remington. I think in reality they are thinking about thinking about it. But I'll be one of the first to admit that Remington marketing is terrible.

I think the real plan is to feel out the market and take orders and see if it is going to be a big sell. Hype it, hype it some more, create an artificial demand and drive up the price if they do in fact build them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Remember all the delays with the .221 Fireball in the classic? Toyota can bring out a new car with less than six months in setting up the production and come out with a quality product. Remington isn't doing anything that is rocket science and they've been talking about it for over six months and there isn't a gun on the market you can lay your hands on yet.

No thanks I'm just going to get a action and build myself a .17 MACH IV it won't cost that much and guess what it will shoot better than that Remchester if they really build it.

Oh and I'll have it before you lay your hands on a .17 Fireball.

Jay-Remember all the hype about the .204 Ruger. There were all kinds of articles about the catridge, before any of us normal people ever saw one. I have no doubt that the .17 Fireball will become available at some time. When, I don't know. Redding shows dies for the .17 Fireball in thier catalog and Hornady is also making dies. I saw a photo of the Hornady dies in an article that I read. I want a .17 Mach IV or a .17 Fireball. I think I will hold off for the Fireball, because hopefully I will be able to buy new brass for it, and won't have to create it, like the Mach IV.

I think that the limited availability will be for the Remington 700 CDL Special Edition.
