17 Remington. Vihtavouri Powder

Thats what I did I reduced by 10%. Started at 23 gr. Accurate reloader showed a starting load at 24. Well at 23 gr and a 30 gr with my chronograph showed 4007 And i had flat primers with cratering!!! Odd. I ran my normal load with 25 gr and H4895 no issues recorded normal velocity of 4057

My book is old and does not show the 17 Rem.
Why would you use N540? That is for high powered rifles like 375 H&H . In my 22 Hornet I use N110. So something a little faster burning than 540 would be a thought. Look on the website. Got to be better choices.

Whoa whoa whoa. Have you ever shot this rifle before? Start with this first load a primer in a case WITH NO POWDER OR BULLET. Fire the gun and see if primer is cratered. Reason is I have seen A firing pin too long.
Second look on Vhitavouri website or get their app if you want to stay with a Vhitavouri powder.

Ive been shooting this rifle for four years. Just trying this new powder with some 30 gr bullets i found

Glad your rifle is good. That's a problem when trying to help on the forum, when all the answers are unknown. The problem with Vhitavouri is,,,, just because a caliber is popular in America, it may not be popular overseas and therefore the calibers get ignored.
While nothing to do with your load or rifle, I have experienced one of my loads, experience flattened primers in one gun and not in another. Each gun is an entity unto itself.

Could anyone tell me what a starting load would be for a 17 Remington 30 gr using N540?
Did you find any info on the N540 in 17 Remington? According to the burn rate charts , it looks like it could work well in the 17 Remington. Especially with 30 grain bullets . I cannot find any data though. The only info I can find for VV powders in 17 Remington is with N135 .
