How hard is it to load for this caliber and does anyone have a "pet load"????? Looks like it would be tough getting the powder into that tiny little hole...lol

23.5 grains of IMR 4320 and a 25 grain bullet has worked in 3 different 17 Rems for me. Each rifle had a different bullet and primer prefrence but prefered the same powder charge. I have worked with Varget and Benchmark too, and had decent results.

Two different .17 Rems that I owned really liked the 20 grain Vmax pushed along by 23.5 grains of Varget and lit with a CCI BR cap. Right at 4000 fps (300 under max!) it was a death ray on ground squirrels and prairie dogs. My longest kill ever with a .17 was 400 yarder using this load. Dropped hm where he stood even.

My 1st .17 Rem had a fondness for IMR 4320, but as there was no Varget back over 30 years ago I can't tell you how it would have done with that powder.

I dont think its hard, you need the .17 funnel but other than that. same as anything.

Standard load is 24 grains of varget with cci br primer and 25 gr berger match .3's off the bench.

Im experimenting with woodchuck dens 27gr golds. same primer, powder but 24.4 gr (3915fps), shoots 5/8th inch group. So far Im not sold on them. Only shot 2 with it, so far but both exited. one was 140 and the other was 310 yards.

I also have had good results with IMR 4320. I have been shooting a .17 Rem since 1975 and settled on 24.5grs. of 4320 behind a 25gr. Remington HP bullet and Remington 7 1/2 primers.

As for loading, they are not hard to load. It is a little slower for me because everything is so small. It takes a smaller funnel and de-burring tool but that's about it. The .17 Remington is worth the trouble, they are great shooting little guns.

my best so far is 25.8 gr of hodgdon h380 and a hornady 25 gr hp. but Ive had very similar results with benchmark and 4064 powders.

My 700 likes 24.3 grs of IMR 4320, rem 7 1/2 primer and a Berger 25 gr match HP. I have had the best luck with Rem 7 1/2 primers.
