I was going for a nice shooting 18" build for my 2nd AR..

I got 11 acres in West Texas and hopefully will get out there this spring to get my cabin built..

Spikes Upper Rec.
18" DPMS MK12 SS416 1/8 Barrel (rifle gas system)
DPMS A2 stock
Palmetto Armory Lower with MOE pistol grip.
Troy 15" Extreme Rail. was on sale

Bushnell Trophy XLT 3-9x40 with 600 DOA Recticle.
MagPul MBUS set.

total came to like $740 minus the scope..

got the lower, FF rail, MBUS, and comp tonight..
waiting on the barrel and A2 stock. (I have another lower here in case this one doesn't come in soon.. lol)

has over 19" of sight radius with just the MBUS set..

the UPS has 1 pkg at 2:48pm to be del tommorrow and 1 at 3:14pm saying Saturday.. but both say 1 business day..

I figure/hope/wish both tommorrow..
 
I just ordered up a box of Hornady 60gr TAP and a box Priv Partizan 75gr HPBT to test out in the rig..

after break in I want to see what it will do with somewhat decent ammo.. The Hornady is supposed to be GTG in the DPMS barrels from what I read online recently.

I don't reload so what ever one works best is the one I will run..
 
Barrel is due in shortly via the USPS.. (out for delivery)

Heres the setup..

Spikes Upper in the 'clam shell' not tightened in yet.. with the bolt 'poly' rod inserted for support.

The barrel was nice..

Barrel marked DPMS 5.56 M-12 1/8 and the barrel has dimples for gas block in it already.

Grease the upper and install the barrel with the PIN in the correct spot..

Install the Troy Barrel nut.. 30-60 ft. lbs.

I oiled the barrel so the YHM low-pro would slide on easier..

Install the gastube roll pin to hold the gas tube. (Tip: Use the proper gastube roll pin holder and be happy)

When installing the Troy you offset it by 1 notch and then twist to align it..

The feedramps aligned nice with the Spikes upper.

I laid it FLAT on a FLAT surface to align the upper with the FF rail.. take your time and don't rush..

Notes: The Troy directions say to leave about 1/8" inch when you tighten it up.. anything more will leave wiggle and you'll be like [beeep].. take time and listen for the groan of the screws..

I had use the 4.2" rail on the bottom but noticed it was hitting the low pro GB on the bottom so I later swapped on the 2 inch rail section just behind the GB soo the rail really does Free Float and not contact the barrel at all.

Overall VERY HAPPY..

I think you will love this set-up. I have the same barrel and love it. I installed a yhm diamond quad rail and I've been eyeballing a 15in handguard to replace it.
 
Brother in law suggests not shooting out back.. and wait till next weekend and goto the range.

okay.. I did a function check today.. 5 XM193 NATO rounds into a tree at like 40 yards with the MagPul MBUS..

This think is sweet.. just a slight pulse reward and then another shot.. shweet.. the Linear Comp is nice.. not loud at all back onto the 'shooter'.

can't wait to get the scope sighted in..

maybe I can con my brother-in-law into taking me back to the farm for 5-10 rounds and get that setup.
 
had to ditch the Troy Extreme as the heli-coils ripped out.. Troy sent me a new Alpha 15" Free.. added a KIES Blast Master Comp/Brake whilst I was at it..

got the scope straightened up.. only 50 shots fired thus far..
