19 Calhoon and silver bullets

Are there any 19 Cal. Calhoon shooters out there. I would like to know how the 19 Calhoon Badger does on Coyotes. I know the 19-223 Calhoon is a tack driving yote killer but the idea of the Badger (19-30 carbine)sounds interesting. Lots of info on the Cahhoon web site but not any paractical info on field use for other than p-dogs.

Also Calhoon advertises a "silver bullet" which is a double hollow point with a silver plate or wash that is supposed to eliminate copper fouling. The bullet is available in 19 or 22 cal. Cabela's is selling ammo loaded with the "silver bullet". Anybody tried these?

Truckeedan,
I have all three Calhoon calibers. I have not used the badger on Coyotes. The only game I hunt is the wily groundhog here in SE PA.
The Badger is by far the more accurate of the three calibers. The .19-223 is the rifle I use for most of my long range shot. The Badger is deadly out to about 350 yards. I use the .19 Calhoon (hornet) when I am going to take shots at less than 200 yards.
The bullets are fantastic. Virtually no fouling. Accurate. Explosive. Love all three of 'em. If Calhoon comes out with another one I will buy it in a heartbeat. Good solid value for the money.

19caJeff,

Thanks for the quick reply. I hear all the Calhoons are very accurate. Which of your three guns is the most quiet and has the least recoil? Also, are your guns on the CZ action or the Ruger action?

I'd still like to hear from anyone who shoots with the .19 Badger or any of the other .19 Calhoons.

Truckeedan,
All the rifles are on the CZ action. The .19 Calhoon is the quietest. .19-223 loudest. Hardly any recoil with any of them.

I shoot Cabela's HSM rounds loaded with the 52 grain Calhoon bullet (Silver Bullet)out of my .222 Rem. They are by far the most accurate bullets I have tried so far and probably the last for awhile since I just ordered 10 more boxes. I was reading Calhoon's website and they stated the 52 grain .22 caliber bullet was designed for coyotes since it has a harder lead core for deeper penetration along with the double hollow point.
When my .22 hornet barrel arrives, I will try these same rounds in it as well. Cabela's offers these rounds in a 30 grain silver bullet for the Hornet. I wonder if that's too light?

Good shooting.

I have a 19 Calhoon (Hornet case) from James buit on the Ruger action. Very accurate. I have only shot 1 coyote with it. DRT.

James designs his bullets/rifles primarily for use on gophers and Prarie dogs here in Montana. His design pholosophy is maximum speed with minimum powder.

The 19 Calhoon is THE ultimate long-range gopher killer. Forget the 17 HMR. 1 pound of AA 1680 will get you about 500 rounds of 19 Calhoon. Add the cost of the bullets and primers and compare that to the cost of 10 boxes of 17 HMR.

I also have a CZ 527 in 223 from him. He put a heavy (26") CZ barrel on it, floated the barrel and tuned the trigger. This rifle will shoot 1/2" groups of every handload I put in it.

James is a great guy to deal with. Of course I am biased because I only live 100 miles away and can visit him whenever I want. If you call him, he'll talk your ear off. Keep your conversations short so he can get back to turning out 19's.
