Where I hunt in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, 4X is plenty for most shots. I rarely ever zoom up past 3X or 4X. The only thing about having a higher magnification scope is that you have it if you need it. Otherwise, I'd say you've got a good scope for close range calling.
Something else you might consider, if inclined, is to have a dot reticle installed in the scope. That combo should make for a great "get-on-em-quick" scope. I have a Leupold 3X that's not been made for years and I've considered having a dot placed in that one. Just a thought.
