2 stage Ar trigger

On the rifle I have I've been told it has a 2 stage trigger. How do I tell and what's the benefit of it? It seems a little heavy and want to lighten the pull if possible.
Thanks

This is a single stage trigger

A 2 stage trigger has a take up stage and a break stage. A single stage has only a break stage...

Ok, thanks for the picture. I do have a two stage trigger. Are they adjustable to lighten up the trigger pull and is this something I can do or a gunsmith? Just a guess, but it's some where around 5 lbs. Is it dangerous to go any lighter or can recoil cause it to fire again?

I have put the yellow reduced power springs in 4 AR's now and while they are not even in the same leauge as my Giessele they did help. For what ever reason I have gottn the best luck with trigger groups from Model 1 Sales as far as being creep free and clean breaking. I have done two M1S kits for buddies that we dropped in the Yellow springs and they both turned out excellent. My DPMS trigger groups definatly improved, but had a small amount of creep and grit.

The only one I'm aware of that's adjustable is a Jewell. I have one and it's sweet, you can set everything to exactly how you like it for bench or field use.

It ain't exactly cheap, but it's all stainless and smooth as silk.

You can go lighter than 5 pounds, 3-4 for hunting is safe. I'd say mine's around 2 pounds first stage and 1 1/12 second stage.

Geissele service and match triggers are also adjustable. Top of the line too.

Jard makes an adjustable AR trigger. I built a lower for using under a 50BMG and used a Jard with a heavy spring and it was fully adjustable for let off. Scary down to under 4 ozs. on my meter .....set it back up to 14.5 ozs.
It is a bolt gun so no worry about second rounds going off when not prepared.
