20 practical question

I have a 20" BHW 20 practical I've assembled. I have researched crimping and all it entails, including the " to crimp or not to crimp" debate.

My question is will I be able to use a Lee factory crimp die in 204 ruger for the 20 practical. I won't be doing any rapid high count shooting but want to see the effects of crimp vs non crimp on accuracy. thanks for any suggestions and if in wrong forum please move.

It is probably to tall to reach the case mouth for crimping wia regular die. I've never used the LEE FC ina 20.. It might be an interesting experiment. I never crimp mine but it only takes ten rounds to find out.

Been shooting a 20pr for about 5-6yrs and have never had to put any type of crimp on the bullets. I have only had one stove pipe back into the case and that was when I first got it and was using cheap magazines and was having feeding issues.

If I did I would use my regular 20 caliber Hornady seater. I have used a FCD and done an extensive test using them enough to know they can be hit or miss. I did prove what more or less crimp does to groups. Can you believe 3" down to 0.5" just by more or less crimp pressure?

As I said I don't crimp but I wouldn't blindly say it is bad. Spend some components and let us know.

You could go and check out Lee precision. They can manufacture custom crimp dies for you. I had them manufacture me a crimp die for the 17 Remington so that I could load for my AR15. It was no more expensive than buying a crimp die off the shelf. As Greg and the other guys have stated you may not need to crimp them but if you still want one Lee should be able to do it for you.

Well I'm surely not set on crimping by no means, just thinking ahead. If I could get by without it, then that's fine by me. I'll hold off for now and see how it shoots first then worry about crimping. Thanks guys

One thing of note I have never seen a 20 Practical from BHW not shoot under an MOA. To qualify that I have seen the proverbial butt load of them too!! LOL

The nice thing is there are years of experience here that have one of these. Nothing that can't be fixed if any glitches show and without a doubt one of the most versatile. This is the one that Ritch is using on coyotes this year.
