2006 Muzzleloader Elk Hunt

Just got home yesterday. I was out 9 days. Weather was dry as a bone, cold (low 20's) at night, warm (60's) during the day. Not the best conditions for where we were hunting but we still managed to fill 2 out of 3 tags.

This is my nephew John, my main hunting partner. I had to wait until we got back to camp to take this pic obviously so it's not the best. This elk is a 5x5. He broke off the tip of his main beam on one side. I passed on a bull that could have been this one's twin.

This is what I ended up with on the last day of the season (Thanksgiving). See what happens when you're a head hunter.

Here he is tucked into my Ranger. I got him in there without any help except a crappy come-along and some rope. I was pretty tickled with my old bones.

And here are my old bones with my "trophy".

Nice work, there's a lot of meat in those pics!
I had to have a give-away session to make room in the freezer for a cow I shot last week. I'm just hoping to get one out whole one of these times.

What state? That sounds like better weather than we had 1st rifle season in CO.

Arizona. Yeah, it was nice weather for being out but a little snow would have made the hunting better.

And you're right Weasel, he'll be fine eating. A little, wait, alot lacking on the wall decoration though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Do what I do with small antlers. Cut 'em up for buttons, powder measures, ball starters or make predator calls and whistles. Folks always warn me not to shoot anything bigger than a spike because they are more interested in the meat.
