I found a barrel at the local gunsmith for my Savage 340...Its the more modern "E" version barrel, and is chambered in .223...So here is my question....I like the oddball stuff...being kind of an Oddball myself /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif...I am thinking of having the gunsmith chamber the barrel for
219 Zipper...anyone have one...what is the performance like?

I am assuming your 340 is chambered in 30-30? Check out the 225 winchester. Ballistics run about equivalent with the 22-250 and it uses the same (identical) magazine as the 30-30. Oddball, fast, the 340 was chambered in it for awhile too. Todd

I have long admired the .225, although from afar (Never had one)....I have heard that the pressures were always a little hot for the action and that the 340 s that were chambered in 225 saw short lives, and then developed headspace problems....My 30-30 has about 1000 rounds thru it since I got it, and I keep them as warm as the brass will handle, with Bal-C2, and light weight bullets. I'm just interested in playing around and experamenting...I can have the barrel rechambered and put on the action for $125, and then if I don't like it, I can put it back like it was, or get another gun, those 340 in 30-30 are plentiful, and reasonably priced...could be I might get a few of them, and experament a lot.

Thanks for the input.

Scott
